💙 Blue Jays: The Bold Backyard Boss

Love them or argue with them — Blue Jays are one of the smartest and most striking birds you’ll see at your feeder.

🔍 Quick Facts:

• Native to eastern & central North America
• Members of the corvid family (related to crows!)
• Incredible memory — they can remember thousands of food cache spots
• Known for loud “jay! jay!” calls and hawk mimicry

Blue Jays aren’t just pretty — they’re intelligent, protective, and surprisingly helpful to forests by spreading oak trees through forgotten acorns.

🌰 How to Attract Blue Jays to Your Yard

If you want these bold beauties visiting regularly, here’s how:

1️⃣ Offer Their Favorite Foods

Blue Jays LOVE:
• Peanuts (in shell or out)
• Sunflower seeds (especially black oil)
• Suet
• Cracked corn
• Acorns if you have oak trees nearby

💡 Tip: Platform feeders or large hopper feeders work best. They’re too big for tiny perches.

2️⃣ Provide Space

Blue Jays prefer open sightlines. Place feeders near trees for quick escape routes, but not buried deep in brush.

3️⃣ Add Fresh Water

A birdbath (especially with moving water) makes your yard even more inviting.

4️⃣ Be Consistent

Once they know your yard is a reliable food source, they’ll return daily — and sometimes bring the whole crew.

🧠 Bonus: They’re Backyard Guardians

Blue Jays often alert other birds to predators. Their loud calls can clear a feeder fast — but they’re actually helping keep everyone safe.

Do you enjoy having Blue Jays at your feeder, or are they the “feeder bullies” in your yard? 👀

Did you know they eat one seed at a time? 👀

Suet snack break 🍽️🌳

This Downy Woodpecker was locked in while fueling up. Suet is one of their favorite high-energy foods — especially when temperatures drop.

The detail in those feathers against the tree bark never gets old.

Do you put suet out in your yard?

POV: you lock eyes with this guy in the woods and realize… you’re being judged 🦃👀

Wild turkey appreciation post because look at those details 😮‍🔥The feathers. The colors. The attitude.

Fun fact: wild turkeys can run up to 20 mph and fly short distances at 55 mph 🤯

This is a Green Heron 🐦
One of the only bird species known to use tools while hunting.

Instead of just waiting, it drops insects, feathers, or small objects into the water to lure fish closer—then strikes in a split second ⚡

Fun fact:
Not every Green Heron does this… it’s a learned behavior, not instinct.

This little puffball showed up like it owned the feeder 👀🐦

Is it a Tufted Titmouse… or just the most judgmental bird you’ve seen today? 😅

Meet the underrated beauty of the backyard 👀🐦

Most people recognize the bright red male Northern Cardinal…
but THIS is the female cardinal — and she deserves her moment 💅

🪶 Soft brown tones
🪶 Warm red accents on the wings, tail & crest
🪶 Same iconic crest, same bold attitude

Fun fact:
➡️ Female cardinals do sing — often to communicate with their mate or defend territory
➡️ They stay with their partner year-round
➡️ Cardinals don’t migrate, so if you see one… they live nearby!

🌻 Seen one of these at your feeder lately?

⬇️ Drop a 🐦 if cardinals visit your yard
