The end of summer marks a time of transformation, preparation, and reflection for me. This year has been filled with a lot of new experiences - it has taken me physically across the US and to new places emotionally (in both positive and negative ways). Sparkling Bloodroot ~
I consider myself to be a minimalist person - someone who wears neutral colors, rarely wears make-up, and doesn’t like to draw a lot of attention to myself. I prefer solid colors over patterns. But something about how bloodroot sparkles in the sun makes my inner child so excited… because sparkles in nature are just really cool. (Sanguinaria canadensis)

Misty Morning ~
Heavy air full of water, hiding the details of the forest from my view. Foggy mornings aren’t rare, but they always bring an air of mystery - especially when paired with the limbs of scraggly oak trees and the dry grass and leaves of early spring. It feels as though this scene could be the setting of a scary storybook, but in the moment, it felt so peaceful.

Tiny Dried Flowers ~
Nature has so much to offer us if we slow down and listen. Notice the smell of the air, the crunch of leaves beneath our feet, the tiny dried flowers left untouched from the previous season. My life may be chaotic at times, but in nature, I always find mindfulness. Prairie fleabane (Erigeron strigosus)

From Sand to Mountain ~
One day I’m in the desert surrounded by sand so white it hurts my eyes to look at, sun blazing down forcing me to shed layers. A long and twisting road later, I’m in the forest, sniffing pine needles, with snow atop the rocky mountain beneath my feet.

Have you ever taken yourself on an adventure to spend time with your thoughts and take in your surroundings as they come? As someone who hasn’t spent much time alone in life, making a little bit of time to be by myself in a place that means so much to me can feel transformative. Nature dates with myself are something special and I recommend you try it too.
