Meet our fabulous Facility Manager Terrance Graven!

Since 1992, I have worked as an art director, set builder, prop master, stylist, model maker, and fabricator in the film, television, theater, and advertising industries. Experiences in each of these roles have given me proficiency in a variety of skill sets, including an aptitude for working with most power tools and machinery. I also pride myself on being organized, self-reliant, and focused, which enables me to handle the pressure of deadlines and to see a project through to completion with minimal supervision. One of my favorite discoveries throughout my career was working on stop-motion animation projects. The creative challenges of this type of work captured my interest and inspired me to specialize in building miniatures.

As an instructor at San Francisco State University in the Cinema Department, I enjoyed drawing from my career background to teach Production Design and Art Direction. Additionally, I teach painting, drawing, collage, and sculpting. I’ve also lectured at Stanford University, U.C. Berkeley, Douglas and Sturgess, Jon Sims Center for the Arts, Yugen Theater, Harvey Milk Institute, and the de Young Museum.

As a creative artist, my installations combine sculptural elements, performance art, costumes, sound, photography, and theatrical lighting. One favorite theme I explore in these installations is the body’s fragility and the frailty of life. This committed exploration can be an apprehensive dive into the shadow of my psyche, but it is also the backbone of my artistic process. I don’t shy away from what lurks in the dark. I don’t seek to appease or comfort with my art. My inspiration compels me to agitate and illuminate concepts and ideas that are usually avoided or unexplored.

My installations have been exhibited at various places, such as David Cunningham Projects Gallery, San Francisco MOMA, De Young Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 111 Minna, Shoshana Wayne Gallery, and the International Performance Art Festival.

I consider myself a connoisseur (some might say a ma*****st) of bad cinema - movies that are so bad, they’re good.

Introducing our new Studio Manager Yasi Mak Yasi Mawaz-Khan!

Based in San Francisco, Yasi () works as a commercial photo, video and experiential producer, with a goal to push creative boundaries through any medium. She has produced content for a variety of clients including: Apple, Levi’s, Disney/Pixar, and SKYY Vodka. She designs and fabricates large interactive fire sculptures with the Flaming Lotus Girls () for festivals like Burning Man, Robodock, and Coachella, and is an active member of the Gray Area Artist Incubator Program (). She’s shown her video art, installations and photography in galleries, and museums, both locally and globally. Yasi has also created a number of short-form documentaries and experimental films, several of which have shown at local film festivals and venues, such as Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Apature and 3rd Eye Festivals.

Yasi is currently in post-production on her first feature documentary, “Ace in the Hole,” () about Bill Kennedy / Belinda Williams, the magical junkyard fairy of Ace Junkyard, who made many San Francisco artists' dreams come true.

She is inspired by the process of creation, collaboration, and birthing new ideas. She intends to give voice to those that have none, and by doing so bring attention to the importance of often forgotten people and the value they bring to our society and culture. Her influences include the community she lives in, good food, and a passion for exploring new concepts and methods of representation.

Mark Welsh a.ka. markiedoodle - founder / ring leader / Oracle

I received the nickname markiedoodle from one of my Uncles as I was always laughing and giggling as a child. Therefore, it was only fitting that I named our studio ‘StoodilyDoodleyO !'

I opened up StoodilyDoodleyO after roughly 20 years in a career wearing many hats of a Set Carpenter, Set Designer, Prop Stylist, Production Designer, Art Director & Fabricator. Nothing has suited me better than being thrown into this career path. It takes an obscure background combined with an eclectic group of skills to undertake the creative challenges thrown our way. Probably why I love it so much.

I grew up around carpentry and photography. I was pulled in to assist both trades from a very young age and gained valuable experience from my mentors. My degree is actually in Civil Engineering. Somehow I found my path and couldn’t be happier. Until the Corona Virus arrived in 2020.

I realized very quickly at the beginning of the pandemic that I loved the work that I do. I missed it terribly during the initial shutdown. So, I took advantage of my downtime and began creating a space where my ridiculousness could flourish.
The space is a dream to work in and also to share with others. I am overwhelmed with joy being able to assist others with their projects and career development.
Personally I am an Uncle, a Husband, an advocate for homeless LGTBQI youth, a Hoosier, a Cheesehead, a swimmer, a backpacker, a traveler, a proud Gay Man, and most importantly; a seeker of the perfect .gif to send you during the most inopportune moment.

I try to inject fun and laughter into my life and work as much as possible. I find that it fosters a better sense of community which allows everyone to work and live in a better space.

Despite all the giggling, you will find that I am as relentless as I am ridiculous. Regardless of your project, budget or intentions please feel free to contact me.
My Mid-Western upbringing necessitates I provide some means of assistance, whether directly or indirectly.

a.k.a. Chair Bish - my impromptu Drag persona.
Having some similarities to pop star Cher - my Drag name arose from my stellar DNA and seemingly age defying body. That and a cheap long black haired wig I picked up to help officiate a friend's wedding in Drag. Another friend soon impersonated Madonna and there was an immediate cat fight & runway walk off on the dance floor. Alas, Chair Bish was born. Chair = play on Cher. Bish = I will slay you on the runway and/or dance floor.
