Hey everyone, in addition to the wildlife and nature photography that I do, I also really enjoy making abstract photos and surreal landscapes, but it's not what this page is for so I created a new page to share that work here:

Please give it a follow if that's something that interests you! And don't worry, I will definitely continue to post wildlife and nature on this page 😁

Digging through my backlog of photos, it turns out I had another encounter with a California Quail back in 2021. This one very politely struck a nice pose for me.

Also in recent photo adventures, I found some baby coots, grebes and ducks with their parents — look forward to those photos!

In addition to the quail I found yesterday, I also saw what I think are 3 different species of "bunny" (although a hare is technically different than a rabbit). In order, I am relatively sure these are: a Brush Rabbit, a Black Tailed Hare, and a Desert Cottontail. My bunny ID skills aren't as good as my bird ID skills so please correct me if I'm wrong!

It's been a while, but I've found myself with more spare time these days. Found a reliable new shooting ground where our beautiful state bird the California Quail hangs out.

Actually, this mom named "Clubs" was traveling with her newborn calf and was likely teaching it how to breach. Our naturalist Sydney from Santa Cruz Whale Watching by Stagnaro Charters explained that one reason whales are thought to breach is that it can be an extremely loud and effective mode of communication — the sound of 40 tons of whale hitting the water can be heard for miles even over very loud and choppy ocean surf.

I recently made a trip out to Moss Landing and was lucky enough to not only spot a sea otter, but to have it feel comfortable enough with me to continue getting closer and closer until it decided to take a nap in the kelp.

And in honor of New Pokemon Snap, I've submitted 4 photos for the professor's evaluation (if you know you know)

Happy 2021! On this day last year, I was in Belize on the Monkey River seeing tons of species I'd never seen before. Unfortunately, for this year I'm safely sheltering in place, but happy to still be able to share new pictures.

This one's an Osprey making off with some lunch. My girlfriend's mom tipped us off to a new shooting spot that was absolutely swarming with photographers (and for good reason!). They were all apparently after a shot of this particular bird who is a somewhat elusive and tends not to stick around after successfully nabbing a fish.

It just so happened that in our first outing, I picked the right place at the right time to grab this shot that a dozen other photographers weren't able to. Hoping it's not a fluke, and that when I visit again, I'll be able to snap something just as good.

I've finally gotten an uninterrupted week-long holiday from work, which means I've finally been able to get out and do some shooting. Got a great tip for a new place to shoot this weekend and wasn't disappointed. 🙂

I saw this uncommon Redhead duck once before but it was an overcast day. This time I was lucky enough to see it with the perfect amount of sun to capture its rich copper-colored feathers!
