Heavy rain brought the Sandhills Bogeys' final regular-season home game to an early end Sunday night against their alter egos, the Pinehurst Caddy Daddies.

Now it's on to the postseason.

The Bogeys earned a first-round bye after finishing the regular season 38–3 overall and 27–3 in the division. They return to Dempsey Diamond on Saturday, July 25, for the second round of the Old North State League Championship Playoffs.

Humbled and honored to have four photographs recognized in the 2026 North Carolina Press Association Editorial Contest.

Congratulations to everyone at The Pilot Newspaper on another outstanding year, earning 30 editorial awards and 7 advertising awards. I'm grateful to the publisher and editors for the trust and freedom they've given me to document stories throughout our community.

These four photographs were recognized in this year's contest:
• 1st Place Sports — The Scream
• 1st Place Sports Feature — Three-Run Homer
• 2nd Place Sports — Freeze Frame
• 3rd Place Sports Feature — Me and My Shadow

Thank you to the entire staff of The Pilot, athletes, coaches, Union Pines, and readers who make these stories possible. Every assignment is an opportunity to preserve a moment that might otherwise be forgotten.

From the archives.

A 2009 travel feature assignment at the Georgia Aquarium offered more than just marine life to photograph. It was also an opportunity to document the scale of the exhibits and the visitor experience.

This year has brought more life changes than I ever expected.

From Army retirement and personal loss to an upcoming return to Georgia, this new chapter includes a new brand and identity.

While I'm stepping away from Senior Media Day sessions, my photojournalism mission remains the same.

There will always be stories to be told, no matter where the assignment takes me—or which direction I point my camera.

Through it all, my purpose remains the same:
Making images that matter.

Freeze Frame | Details

Capturing the action is just part of the story. Seeing the details helps complete it.

Some of my favorite images aren't about the winning shot or the final score. They're about the small moments that add context, character, and meaning to every assignment.

Viking football returned to practice after the holiday break, work continued on the new playing surface at Wilhoit Stadium, and flag football opened summer workouts despite a little afternoon lightning in the area.

Three assignments. One day. Fall sports are taking shape at Union Pines.

Freeze Frame | Coaches

A coach's legacy isn't measured solely by the scoreboard. It's reflected in the athletes they help become through discipline, resilience, character, and confidence, both in competition and in everyday life.

Wins and losses become part of the record. The lessons learned, the character built, and the lives shaped often last much longer.
