Captain Steve's Delta Adventures

Captain Steve's Delta Adventures Read. Explore. Discover. This page is home to my educational children’s book series inspired by the wildlife, waterways, and history of coastal Alabama.

More than books—it’s an adventure! 🌿📚

Children’s books, curriculum, nature education, hands-on exploration & one-of-a-kind merchandise inspired by the wildlife, history, legends & wild places of the Gulf Coast. Each story blends adventure, science, and heart—encouraging kids to explore the outdoors, ask questions, and develop a deeper respect for the natural world. The books are designed for curi

ous young readers, families, classrooms, and anyone who loves learning through storytelling. Alongside the books, I also create nature-inspired jewelry as a companion to the stories. Some pieces feature my original wildlife photography transformed into wearable art, while others are thoughtfully assembled using curated charms inspired by animals and themes found in the books. Whether you’re here for the stories, the learning, or the little treasures that go with them, everything shared on this page celebrates curiosity, creativity, and connection to nature.

🌿🐊 DID YOU KNOW THERE'S AN "AMAZON" IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD?

You don't have to travel halfway around the world to discover an incredible maze of rivers, creeks, swamps, marshes, forests and wildlife.

We have one right here.

The Mobile-Tensaw Delta is often called "America's Amazon" because of its incredible biodiversity — and it has inspired so much of the world behind Captain Steve's Adventures.

That's why I'm SO excited that a few selected Delta books are joining my wildlife jewelry and magnets at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf in Downtown Mobile!

📚 Read about it.
🐊 Meet some of its wildlife.
🦅 Discover what's flying overhead.
🌿 Learn to look a little closer at what's around you.

And beginning in 2027, you'll have another way to experience it.

The museum's upcoming Delta Mosaic exhibit will put visitors right into the heart of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta through an immersive indoor experience.

All the wonder of the delta...

WITH AIR CONDITIONING. 😂

And no mosquitoes buzzing around your head.

Sounds like my kind of summer delta adventure!

Until then, start exploring through a Captain Steve's Adventure.

🎶🌊🐊 THERE'S A LOT HAPPENING ON THE MOBILE WATERFRONT THIS WEEKEND!

If you're headed to the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf for the opening festivities surrounding the new Jimmy Buffett: Son of a Son of a Sailor Experience, take a little time to explore the REST of this incredible museum, too!

And while you're there...

👀 Keep an eye out for some familiar Captain Steve's Adventures faces!

A few selected Delta books have now joined my Delta-inspired jewelry and magnets in the museum store. ❤️

Jimmy Buffett told stories inspired by the Gulf Coast.

Captain Steve's Adventures tells stories inspired by the wildlife, waterways, history and legends all around us.

And soon the museum will be telling another incredible Gulf Coast story with Delta Mosaic: A Confluence of Life, opening in 2027 and dedicated to one of our greatest natural treasures — the Mobile-Tensaw Delta.

Music. Maritime history. Wildlife. Culture. Stories.

Sounds like a pretty good reason to spend some time on the Mobile waterfront this weekend!

📚❤️ A LITTLE LOVE FOR THE HAUNTED BOOK SHOP

If you’re heading into Downtown Mobile for LoDa ArtWalk, make sure you leave some time to wander into The Haunted Book Shop.

One of the things I’ve learned since beginning Captain Steve’s Delta Adventures is just how important independent bookstores are to local authors. They give our books a place on the shelf, introduce them to readers who might never have discovered them otherwise, recommend them to families, and help build a literary community right here at home.

The Haunted Book Shop has been one of those places for Captain Steve’s adventures, and I’m incredibly grateful to have my books sitting on their shelves alongside so many other stories waiting to be discovered.

So while you’re downtown enjoying the artists, music and everything happening during ArtWalk, go inside the bookstore and browse for a while. Look for Captain Steve, of course 😉, but don’t stop there. Find another local author you’ve never read. Ask the booksellers what they recommend. Pick up something completely unexpected and take a new story home with you.

Supporting local authors also means supporting the independent bookstores that are willing to put our books on their shelves and help readers find us, and every book you purchase locally helps keep that relationship going.

And really...is there any better place to get wonderfully lost for a little while than a bookstore called The Haunted Book Shop? 👻📚

If you’re downtown for LoDa ArtWalk, stop in, browse the shelves and show them a little love.

🎨❤️ IT’S ARTWALK NIGHT IN DOWNTOWN MOBILE!

If you’re wondering where the Captain Steve’s Delta Adventures tent is tonight, you won’t find one this time around, but you CAN still find Captain Steve downtown!

While you’re enjoying LoDa ArtWalk from 6–9 PM, take some time to explore the local businesses that support Mobile’s artists, authors and makers all year long. Stop by The Gallery and browse the local artwork and creations, or wander into The Haunted Book Shop and get lost among the shelves for a while. You’ll find selections of my Captain Steve books and wildlife-inspired jewelry along the way, so you can still take a little bit of the adventure home with you.

And please don’t make Captain Steve your only reason to walk through those doors! One of the best things you can do for a local artist or author is discover someone whose work you didn’t know before you arrived. Pick up a book by a local writer, find a piece of artwork that reminds you of Mobile, talk to the people behind the counter, grab dinner at a locally owned restaurant and see where the evening takes you.

Captain Steve’s Delta Adventures grew out of a love for the wildlife, waterways, history and stories of this part of the Gulf Coast, so being surrounded by other people who are creating work inspired by this community feels like exactly where these adventures belong.

No tent required. ❤️

Come downtown tonight, enjoy ArtWalk and SUPPORT LOCAL — because buying from local authors, artists, makers, bookstores, galleries, shops and restaurants helps keep Mobile’s creative community growing long after ArtWalk is over.

🎨📚 LODA ARTWALK IS TOMORROW NIGHT!

Downtown Mobile will be coming alive again tomorrow night for LoDa ArtWalk, and while Captain Steve’s Delta Adventures will not have a tent set up this month after all, that doesn’t mean you can’t find a little Captain Steve adventure while you’re downtown!

As you make your way through ArtWalk, stop by The Gallery and The Haunted Book Shop, where you can find selections of my books and wildlife-inspired jewelry and take a little piece of the adventure home with you.

One of the things I love about ArtWalk is that supporting local art doesn’t end when you leave the tents on the street. Downtown Mobile is filled with galleries, bookstores, restaurants, shops and other small businesses that support local artists and authors throughout the year, and Friday night is a great excuse to wander into a place you haven’t visited before and see what you discover.

So come downtown, enjoy the art, listen to the music, have dinner somewhere local, browse the shops, meet some artists and authors, and spend an evening supporting the people who are creating things right here in our community.

And if you happen to spot Captain Steve, Hooks, a manatee, an otter or another familiar Gulf Coast critter while you’re exploring the shops...well, you know where they came from. 🐊🦦📚❤️
