Soaring over one of the Upstate's most beautiful hidden gems — Glendale Shoals Preserve in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

Captured from the air, you'll see the waterfall cascading over the old mill dam, the historic 1928 pedestrian bridge spanning Lawson's Fork Creek, and the wooded trails and ruins that make this spot so special.

Once the site of the Glendale Cotton Mill (founded in the 1830s as Bivingsville and later renamed by textile magnate Dexter Converse), the mill closed in 1961 and its main structure was lost to fire in 2004. Today the 29-acre preserve is protected by the Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE), with nature trails, wildlife, and that gorgeous waterfall drawing visitors year-round. It sits just east of downtown Spartanburg, next to Wofford College's Goodall Environmental Studies Center.
