From a very early age, I had a camera with me. In high school, my dad bought an enlarger for me and all of the necessary equipment for a darkroom. I spent all of the money I earned working after school at The Great American Chocolate Chip Cookie Company buying paper, fix and squeegees. I loved watching the magic as the images slowly revealed themselves! Today, I’m just as excited to edit your imag

I’m wondering if I know a musician who wants to create something original for it.

I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for, or how this works, but I do know I’d want the music to feel like it belongs to this dreamy world I’m creating.

There’s no budget, but we'd get to make art together!

The tragedy and beauty of “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Man of La Mancha” have shaped the way I think about life.

I have tattoos from both: “impossible dream” and “yes, yes, magic.”

The main characters, Blanche DuBois and Don Quixote, both see the world not as it is, but as it should be. Blanche puts paper lanterns over naked light bulbs, creating beauty where there is none. Don Quixote sees a giant where others see a windmill, and a magnificent castle where a rundown roadside inn exists.

In my studio, set as a hotel suite, I’m going to create a short movie borrowing from this idea: that our lives, despite tragedy and imperfection, are always worthy of pursuing our impossible dreams.

The hotel is named The Grand Delusion because, to those who are not dreamers, it may appear to be a delusion. But just as Don Quixote saw in Aldonza the beautiful, lovable Dulcinea, sometimes the truth is simply waiting to be revealed and believed.

“When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams—this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness—and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!”

The hotel suite is a place where dreams and desire collide, where we suspend reality for a moment and see the world not as it is, but as it should be.

I photographed a senior this week.

When Grandpa hired me, he was a little worried. You know: teen boy who only wears black hoodies and is seemingly surly.

That’s my favorite. I love a challenge!

I promised Grandpa that his grandson would have fun. By the end of the session, at least.

After delivering the gallery, I received these messages: “Wow! Those are amazing. Thank you so much. We had a wonderful time. I’m so happy I found you online to do this for us. Thank you so much Hara. Im glad i got to meet you. It was a good experience for Gunner and I.”

Mission accomplished.
