One reason I LOVE when families book their sessions ahead of time? It gives me room to really plan.

Annmarie wanted spring flowers. 💐

So as things started blooming around Spokane, I went scouting and sent her videos of a few different options.

She chose Drumheller Springs, and LOOK. AT. THIS. 😍

The flowers out here constantly change throughout spring, so the exact backdrop can vary from week to week. From purple, to pink to yellow flowers, this nature preserve does NOT disappoint! There are also spots with trees and greenery closer to the entrance if trekking farther into the park isn't ideal for your family.

And one little lesson from this session: if you're bringing a stroller farther into Drumheller, bigger/jogger-style wheels are definitely your friend. 😂

There’s something about the tiny details that always get me.

Of course I wanted the sweet photos of Violet cuddled up with her dad, but when I noticed he had her name tattooed on his arm, I knew I wanted to make sure that became part of the story too.

Someday she’ll be much bigger than this, and she won’t fit quite so perfectly in his arms.

But they’ll always have these photos of the season when she was still so tiny—and her name was already permanently part of him. 🥹

These are the kinds of details I love looking for during a session. The things that might seem small right now, but years from now might be exactly what makes a photo hit you right in the heart.

Purple flowers for little Violet. 💜

We found the prettiest purple spring blooms at Drumheller Springs and created their very first professional family photographs together.

And Annmarie finally got to be in the memories instead of behind the camera. 🥹

Their first professional photos together. Ever. 💜

Annmarie and Lucas have been together for three years, but they hadn't had professional photos taken together—not even at their wedding.

Then came little Violet.

When Annmarie told me she wanted a spring family session surrounded by flowers.

Because they booked early, I had time to scout locations as spring started showing up around Spokane. I sent Annmarie videos of a few options, and she chose Drumheller Springs. She really wanted photos with purple flowers and this was JUST the spot!

I was SO excited.

We found the prettiest patch of purple flowers, laid out a cream blanket and spent the evening cuddling, playing and loving on their four-month-old girl.

And most importantly, Annmarie finally got to be in the photos instead of taking them. 🥹

You might be wondering who Jonathan’s adorable little friends are! 🥹🎈

These custom crochet stuffies were made to look like characters from Malyshariki, one of Jonathan’s favorite shows! It’s a Russian children’s series, which makes this detail even sweeter because Jonathan is growing up learning multiple languages and is on his way to being trilingual.

His mama, Annastasia, had the characters custom made and knew she wanted to incorporate them into his 1st birthday photos somehow. We played around with a few ideas and ultimately decided to give each one its own tiny white balloon so it looked like all of Jonathan’s little friends had shown up to celebrate his birthday with him. 🥹

I LOVE incorporating details like this into milestone sessions. They don’t have to take over the entire set or turn it into a huge theme. Sometimes a few meaningful pieces are all you need to make the photos feel completely personal to your little one.

And I have a feeling these little stuffies are going to make these photos even more special to Jonathan and his family years from now. 💜

This newborn session features baby Charlotte at 5 weeks old in my Spokane, WA studio 💜

While many newborn sessions happen within the first 2–3 weeks, this session is a perfect example of how beautiful photos can still be captured a little later. Charlotte was full of personality, giving us expressive, eye-contact-filled images along with sweet detail shots.
