While we wait for the impending snowstorm to hit, let me take you back to last Summer to a Storyteller Session with Stephanie Gibson.
Steph is an artist working and living in Lancaster, PA. She co-owns Third Story Art with fellow artist Leah Fox.
Steph’s earliest memory of creating is finger painting as a child. She loved the silky texture of the paint and the way it felt to move it around the paper.
She works out of her home studio, nestled among the tall trees that surround her property. When I had asked if she listens to anything while she works she was adamant that the sounds outside her window were enough. When I paused to listen, I understood why. You could hear the songs of various birds, a few spunky squirrels working out a feud, and the telltale sound of Summer cicadas.
As someone who is usually looking at the ground on nature walks, Steph is always looking up. She looks for new tree growth, how the light plays against the leaves, how the color of the sky weaves itself into the canopy of the trees.
Steph’s work is rooted in the joy of what she discovers in these woods. If you find that you can’t get yourself to the woods every day, looking at Steph’s paintings will soothe that need just fine.
