A little preview from last night’s senior session.

We pulled out the purple gelled light and smoke for a few football shots, and I love how this one turned out.

Grand Meadow takes the field for their first game of the season this Thursday against Mabel-Canton. Good luck to Jackson and the rest of the Superlarks this season! 💜🏈

🎰♠️ Maverick hit the jackpot; he’s 7 today! ♥️🎲

For his 7th birthday, we had to go with a Lucky 7 theme, and honestly, it fits him pretty well. Maverick has never had a problem being the center of attention, so a little poker, some slots, a little Vegas, and a whole lot of personality felt about right.

It’s hard to believe he’s already 7. He’s been part of so many studio days, photo shoots, random behind-the-scenes moments, and plenty of chaos over the years. He’s always nearby, always curious about what we’re doing, and usually convinced that whatever is happening probably involves him somehow and hopefully a treat!

I'd say I hit the jackpot with him as my dog.

Happy 7th Birthday, Maverick!

Just pulled the images from last night’s senior session and wanted to share this one because it’s a little something different.

Garrett likes to weld, so of course we had to work that into his senior pictures. I’ve never photographed a senior welding before, and I have to say, I love how this one turned out.

With his family’s permission, I wanted to share a few photos of Nathaniel. ❤️

On Friday, Audra and I had the privilege of taking Nathaniel’s senior pictures. His mom was there watching him smile and “enjoy” having his pictures taken, as much as most high school senior boys enjoy having their photos taken, and he was mostly doing it for her.

We started at the studio, made our way around downtown Spring Valley, stopped at the Kingsland football field, and finished at the Grand Meadow track and field with the very last bits of light. We worked around the rain and were able to capture not only his senior pictures, but some of the places and things that were part of Nathaniel’s life and that he loved.

The very next day, Nathaniel was in an accident, and on Sunday, he passed away.

There really are no words. I am just so grateful that we went ahead with his session that Friday and that his mom had that time with him, watching him smile, laughing, going from place to place together, and making memories that none of us could have known would become so incredibly precious.

It means more than I can express that I was able to be a small part of Nathaniel’s life and capture these photographs for his family and friends.

These are so much more than senior pictures now. They are pieces of Nathaniel’s life, his smile, his senior year, the places and things he loved, and memories that will forever be held close by the people who loved him. ❤️

My heart is with his family, his friends, his classmates, and everyone who loved him.

A little behind-the-scenes look at today’s one-year cake smash setup! 💙

Audra put together this adorable blue balloon arch this morning for a session on Saturday, although Maverick decided to “help” while she was blowing up the balloons by popping one he thought looked especially fun. 😂

Once the set was finished, he of course had to pose for a picture with it. He is the very best studio assistant.

The set is ready and Maverick approved for the birthday boy and some cake!

Summer always seems to fly by, and here we are already halfway through July. Before we know it, the kids are another year older, seniors are heading into their final year, and fall schedules are packed.

We’ve opened a few summer and early fall dates for senior, family, children, and pet sessions. Whether you’ve been picturing a golden summer evening, wildflowers and country scenery, or those beautiful fall colors, now is a great time to start planning.

🎓 2026 Senior Session Spotlight: Brecken 🎓

Brecken's senior session was one I had been looking forward to because I've known his family for years. His parents are longtime friends, and his dad, Brandon, is one of my best friends from high school. Getting to photograph the children of lifelong friends is always an honor, and it made this session even more meaningful.

Some senior sessions take you to one location. Brecken's took us from the lake in the summer to the bluffs of Lanesboro in the fall.

We kicked things off at his family's cabin on Cedar Lake near Faribault. Despite temperatures that barely climbed out of the 60s, Brecken never complained, not even when we had him out on the water waterskiing! He was an absolute trooper.

One of my favorite images from the session took a little teamwork to create. While I photographed from shore, my assistant, Taylor, was out on a pontoon holding the light so we could capture the perfect shot of Brecken on their boat. She also captured some incredible action photos of Brecken waterskiing from out on the pontoon.

In the fall, we met again in Lanesboro to finish his session. We wandered through downtown, stopped by the dam, captured a few trap shooting portraits, and even included some family photos along the way.

From cool quiet evening sunsets at the lake to hot fall afternoons in Lanesboro, Brecken's senior session celebrated the people, places, and activities that have helped shape who he is.

Congratulations, Brecken! Wishing you all the best with everything that comes next. 🎓❤️

🎓 2026 Senior Session Spotlight: Emma 🎓

Some days everything just comes together perfectly.

Emma's senior session took place in downtown Rochester on one of those rare October days that felt more like late summer than fall. We were treated to blue skies, warm temperatures, flowers still in bloom, and beautiful evening light.

From the downtown architecture and city streets to the parking ramp views and glowing lights later in the evening, every stop gave us a different look and feel. And Emma made my job easy with her natural smile and relaxed personality.

Sometimes a senior session doesn't need a lot of extras. A beautiful day, a great location, and a senior excited about this season of life are more than enough.

Congratulations, Emma! Wishing you an amazing summer and all the best as you prepare for the future 🎓❤️

🎓 2026 Senior Session Spotlight: Greta 🎓

Greta's senior session was especially fun because I've known her family for years. Her parents are friends, her mom was a classmate of mine in high school, and a few years ago I had the privilege of photographing her brother's senior photos as well. It's always special to watch families grow and come back for another session.

Some seniors build their session around sports. Some around activities. Some around a favorite location.

Greta's session was a little bit of everything.

Golf clubs, tennis racquets, knitting needles, books, two dogs, and even a rain delay all became part of her senior session.

We started in the studio with some classic portraits and a few photos showcasing her love of knitting before heading to Good Earth Village for outdoor photos. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and cut our session short with rain.

A few weeks later, we met up again to finish her session. We visited Maple Valley Golf Course, the tennis courts at Stewartville High School, and the Stewartville Public Library, where we incorporated her two dogs and her love of reading.

What I loved most about Greta's session was how every stop, every prop, and every activity reflected something she genuinely enjoys. By the time we finished, Greta's session was filled with the things that make her uniquely her.

Congratulations, Greta! Wishing you all the best in the future.
