This is a beautiful photo of the bay in San Luis Obispo California at sunset. Overlooking the South Palisades beach cliffs. It was a perfect evening and is one that will be remembered for quite a long time!

Dec 20, 2023.

I had a trip to Spokane WA. This is day 4 of 6 working away from home and boy do I miss Rebekah and Sedona. Thankfully I was able to get out with my crew and go for a beautiful walk through the River Front Park downtown. The light was setting but I was able to get some BEAUTIFUL pictures with my new Christmas/birthday present from my parents and wife! Thank you again, I'm having a blast with it!

The captain challenged me to a photo contest, him with his phone and me with my camera. He bowed out and said I won, but just barely.

The walk was short, just over an hour, and super cold. I think the temperature was only 44F outside. With the sun setting fast, it sure made it feel colder. We hustled back to the hotel for the night and went our separate ways. I spent a little time editing a few photos and working on quarterly training that we have to do.

I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Wow, it’s been much, much longer than I could have ever expected since my last post! This page started out as a journal for me to look back on as the years passed so I could see my own highlights of the places I’ve been and the accomplishments I have achieved for myself. While I have gotten pretty lucky to have such an awesome start to this while I lived in Page, I realized the other day that it is sorely lacking in content. As I scrolled down the posts I am greeted with many wonderful pictures that flood memories of places I have been lucky to have seen when I did. With those places I am also greeted with so many friendly faces from along the the journey of this page, and it almost brings a tear just thinking about it. I miss you all so much and hope that whomever reads this post in particular has a similar feeling of a memory with me. I hope you are doing well.

Since my last postings back some time in 2018 the world has changed, some for the better and some not so. As much as the world we share has changed, so has my life, so here I am to post a minimalist post about the things that have been happening since to fill my future self in on all that I have been missing 😬!

Shortly after I left Page AZ, I relocated to my parents house in my childhood room for a few weeks for the holiday season in Oregon. While in Oregon I matched online dating (cliche, I know) with a beautiful woman that I would date while I was flying based in Arizona. The tricky part is shes a flight attendant in Portland 😅. Boy do I know how to pick ‘em! We dated for an entire year, before I moved back to Oregon to really give this relationship thing a solid chance, and boy did I! One year later, we were married!! What a life change that was! From moving out of state for my first time to moving home for a girl, to marry! I honestly never would of thought I’d settle down, I had almost given up on trying to date anyone when out of nowhere Rebekah comes waltzing into my life for the best!

After a year of living in a quaint apartment in Vancouver WA, Rebekah forced me to start looking at houses. I couldn’t thank her enough for the push (she’s always driving me in a positive direction, and I wouldn’t be anywhere without her). We purchased a house and moved in April of 2021, height of COVID pandemic and bottom of the interest drop! Perfect timing👏!

Wouldn’t you know it another years passed, I have a stunning wife, 2 cats with some questionable anxieties and a wonderfully steady job flying cargo, at this point, as a captain at Ameriflight flying a Beechcraft model 99, delivering cargo and feeling like I’m making a difference in the world, it was very rewarding! Somehow in mid October, or maybe November, I can never remember 😅 the real meaning to my life was about to be revealed.

I’m outside working on some meaningless project in the back of the house and I hear Rebekah screaming. She comes running out of the back door yelling for me, “, Cody… CODY… IM PREGNANT!”

We had been trying for 7 months with so many ups and downs, and sick to our stomach with each test. But finally, it was our turn.

Sedona Page Berning was born August 3, 2022 after 36 hours of labor (poor mama😢) and after a slightly rocky start we had a beautiful, giant, 10.1lb, 22 inch tall baby girl in our arms. My life changed forever and the weight of seeing that baby in her moms arms proved it. Nothing will ever be the same.

I am currently 1 and a half years at Horizon Air. First year was as a Q400 FO, and currently as an E175 FO. By the end of this year I hope to be an airline captain, and my baby girl will be 1 in just a few weeks!

I hope you all know how much you meant to me, and how much I miss you. I hope as I come back around to your area I will be able to reconnect with familiar faces and share my beautiful family with you! I promise I will try harder to keep this page up to date and going. Wether you enjoy following the stories, looking fondly on the memories, or enjoy the photographs, I hope this post finds you doing well and happy!

Cheers.

On Sept 30th 2018 I was able to make it to one of my last few "must go" places outside Page AZ. Wirepass canyon provided me with a beautiful drive down to the parking lot for The Wave in Utah. It was only 3/4 of a mile hike down a small wash until I was in a slot canyon. I totally understand now why people chase slots around here, they're stunning! The pictures below are from the intersection of Wirepass Canyon, a nice short hike that is often used as a jump on/off for a much longer hike, the 20+ mile Buckskin Gulch. They are nothing short of breath taking! In the canyon theirs a small ammo can with a note letting travelers know this area is a natural amphitheater, which makes sense, and a hieroglyph wall on the left side of it. Overall it was a stunning hike, One of my new favorites, and I cant wait to come back! Just a heads up though, it's a $6 per person fee at the Parking lot!

I get asked all the time what it's like to live in Northern Arizona. Yesterday afternoon I decided to take the GoPro out and get some aerial footage of what the area is like. The vibrant colors, and jagged rocks are both terrifying and awe inspiring! Enjoy a short trip to Glen Canyon Dam, Horseshoe Bend, the Upper Antelope Canyon, Navajo Butte (the sleeping Indian), Tower Butte, and some stunning canyons as you travel up the most visited portions of Lake Powell!

So it's been a pretty hectic month and a half, but I finally got to edit a few pictures I took in Zion National Park! I made a trip to Reno NV back at the beginning of August 2018 to meet up with my parents and sister for the first time this year, after moving to Arizona back in January. On my way, I decided I had to make a detour through Zion, which turned out to be a pretty solid decision. It took me to the top of a majestic mountain at the top of the park called Angels landing, and I was able to see the entire main valley. It got it's name from a missionary, Frederick Fisher, who said it was so beautiful "only an angel could land on it." back in 1916, when him and 3 others were exploring the area.
The hike was a little under 2.5 miles each way, with over 1500 feet of elevation gain. Being an Oregon boy used to sea level, the finishing altitude of 5790 feet made it a noteworthy challenge. Needless to say I was glad to make it to the top!
I lolly-gagged around for almost an hour, just taking everything in before I headed back down. Once you get back to the bottom it's a very short tram ride back to Zion Lodge where I took in a little more scenery, this time with a beer in hand (a well deserved one)!

Anyway, I didn't realize until recently that I hadn't uploaded anything so I figured what better time 😅! I hope if you're seeing and reading my adventure it inspires you to take time to head to Zion. At the time of writing this it's the most beautiful place I've ever had the pleasure of seeing with my own eyes!

So I finally got around to editing a few more pictures, along with creating my first attempt at a new watermark, so no stealing my pictures lol 😄. The trip was on August 4th, but the pictures are from August 6th. I was thankfully able to visit home in Oregon a few weeks ago and boy did it remind me how much I miss home! Seeing all my family, and how much they miss me, my friends who haven't skipped a beat, to even meeting a few new people the whole trip was absolutely fantastic! There's really too many stories that I could share here, but that would take more space than I think Facebook allows! These are from Silver Falls. I was able to meet up and hang out with a new friend who's probably more outdoorsy, and defiantly loves being an Oregon local than I do (hard to believe I know!). It was a pretty splendid highlight to my trip, but I digress. Made it to Silver Falls and took some quality pictures that I'm super happy with, Man I miss home! They're a little more touched up than I'm used to, so let me know how you like them!

Until the next post! Thanks for going on this adventure with me 😊

So I decided to go out to Lone Rock State Park, just past the Utah state line last night. It was the evening of longest lunar eclipse this century, which was pretty awesome! Unfortunately, it did not happen on my side of the planet, which I knew going out 😐, but I figured what better time to try some night photography, something I'm not good with by any means! Never the less the moon was BRIGHT (most of the pictures ended up looking like it was daylight, and I wasn't able to get any moon details in it) but I was still able to appreciate the beauty, and get a few pictures I'm happy to share!

Made it to the Wahweap Hoodoos, after only a 4.4 mile hike in on Sunday, 7/15/2018. Talk about a spectacularly bland hike, less some nice cliffs here and there, or if riverbeds are your thing, it was beautiful! Never the less once you're there, it's absolutely STUNNING. It's amazing how diverse the landscape around here really is!
Just glad we left when we did, courtesy of a localized thunderstorm threatening a flash flood in the area 😅. Overall, uneventful less some stunning landscape, just how I like my adventures!
