I got my first Canon film camera and set up my own darkroom in our basement. I concentrated mainly on black and white photography those days. I got my first digital camera in 2005 and have practiced almost daily since. I love photographing all aspects of nature - wildlife, plants, landscapes, insects, etc...

I love seeing and taking pictures of the wonders of what our world has to offer - Beautiful landscapes, wildlife in action, close ups of flowers and butterflies, and more. Now that I am retired, I will be sharing my photography experiences as I visit new places, learn to see old places in a new light, learn and practice new photography and post-processing skills, and apply techniques I have learned over the years as an amateur photographer. Bald Eagle perched near the nest that it and its presumed mate are building at Leesylvania State Park! It will be awesome observing and photographing this pair of eagles as they build their nest and hopefully hatch a chick or two!

River Otter Family at Mason Neck State Park! This morning I posted some photos of River Otter at Huntley Meadows. This afternoon I am posting this video of a River Otter family at Mason Neck State Park. I had the pleasure and honor of observing and photographing these three otter (I believe a mother and two kits). The kits were probably born this past spring. River Otter kits typically remain with family unit for 7 to 12 months. Enjoy!

It's always a treat to see River Otters at Huntley Meadows! They seem to be making more regular appearances early in the morning recently. This otter caught and ate at least three small fish while I and other photographers watched and photographed it! Enjoy!

One of my favorite photographs of a Bald Eagle. I love the natural framing of the autumn leaves around this eagle. This is one of a pair of eagles I observed and photographed for about 3 hours at Leesylvania State Park yesterday. They are in the process of building a new nest. I will post photos of the nest and more photos of both eagles over the next few days.

Talons Out captures a bald eagle descending toward rippling water, talons extended and wings splayed in a decisive mid-air arc. Sunlight skims the feathers, warm russets against cool blues, while the eagle’s focused gaze hold the moment between flight and contact.
