I opened my closet to put some files away and saw this… I have so many questions.

Update: During my move last year I forgot to measure the temperature in the closet where I store them for winter blooms, and it ended up being a lot warmer than it should’ve been. I’m guessing that’s what triggered it. I’m letting it bloom now and will slowly introduce it to light until it’s safe to sit by the window.

My balcony this year 🌿

I didn’t really have the energy to focus on the plants this time around, so I let things grow a bit wild and chaotic—but honestly, I’ve come to really like how it turned out.

My mother-in-law’s garden today 🌿

Everything is looking full, alive, and well established right now—one of those spaces where you can tell a lot of care has gone into it over time. Just walking through and taking it in feels like a quiet reminder of how much a garden can change with the seasons.

Look what I found growing in my garden this morning! 🌿

I had big plans to finish filling and planting my new garden beds today, but I glanced out the window and realized a mama deer had other ideas—she left her fawn right there instead 🥰

The ultimate gardening contradiction… deer are both your sworn enemies and the most adorable visitors you can possibly have.

Hopefully mama just stepped out for breakfast and comes back soon—because I’ve still got a lot to get done out there today!

All sorted now—what do you think? 😂

My tenants were recently evicted, and the carpet in two of the bedrooms was beyond saving. Their teenage sons occupied these rooms, and let's just say they appeared to be working hard on building some impressive neckbeard nests.

I've never installed flooring before, but I decided to tackle it myself. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I still need to finish a few details and install the quarter round, but I think it's coming together nicely.

Please be gentle with the feedback—I know how brutal these home improvement groups can be!

Edit: A lot of people have asked why I removed the carpet. The tenants had multiple dogs (more than allowed in the lease), and they repeatedly let them urinate and defecate on the carpet. While the dirt and debris were bad enough, the dog urine was ultimately what made replacement necessary.

Edit 2: I wasn't expecting the amount of negativity I've received simply for being a landlord. I genuinely just wanted to share a flooring project that I completed myself and felt proud of. Most people here have been supportive and offered helpful feedback, which I really appreciate. To those who did, thank you. As for the comments telling me to "get a real job" and calling me a "soulless vampire landlord," I'm not sure what experiences led to those feelings, but I hope things get better for you.

We had this paver patio installed about two weeks ago, and now I’m trying to figure out the best shade solution before buying an outdoor couch this week.

The patio gets full sun from around 11 a.m. until sunset, so some type of shade is definitely needed. My first thought was a pergola, but I’m not sure how to secure it without damaging the pavers. I’d also like to keep the project as budget-friendly as possible.

For those with similar setups, what shade options have worked best for you? Pergola, shade sail, cantilever umbrella, gazebo, or something else?

How did I do?
bought this a year ago and had a flagstone path from our deck to the driveway+shed. overgrown by grass, super wobbly, horrible in general, and some old ugly tiles.

about 7 days on/off (about 40 total hours put in), 1000$ in materials, and i made (with wifey’s help) a 250sq ft paver patio myself. leveling is not the best but slope are away from the house, stairs and shed which is all i cared about. did not dig nearly enough at first (2-3inch 1/4 gravel base compacted on top of compacted soil) but I did not expect the excavation effort and how many humps in the soil i’d need to fight with. 🥵

Finished with nailed in paver edging, another layer of geotextile on top of it and white decorative rocks. We also had the fun surprise of finding electrical routed only 1-2 inches underground with 0 protection going to our shed😅
