Quick gut check: does looking at your own brand photos make you proud, or does it make you wince a little?

Let’s talk about it. Here are some pretty good signs it’s time to level up your photos...

1. Your last photoshoot happened over a year ago. Your business has changed. Grown. Pivoted. Maybe you’ve rebranded twice. Your photos are still stuck back in whatever year you took them and they’re refusing to catch up.

2. Every pose feels forced, the kind where you can practically hear yourself thinking “just smile normal” on repeat. Confidence doesn’t come through when you’re forcing it, and people can smell inauthenticity a mile away. That’s not a you problem. That’s a “you needed an actual St. Louis brand photographer, not a conference badge photo or a bathroom mirror selfie” problem.

3. Someone compliments your photo and your gut reaction is “oh god, please don’t look too closely.” We need to talk.

4. One or two photos are pulling triple duty across your entire online presence. Website. LinkedIn. Email signature. Every social platform. That’s a lot of pressure to put on two photos that were never built to carry your whole brand.

5. Your current look, offers, or vibe don’t match what’s actually on your page anymore. Someone lands on your website, the photos feel like they belong to a stranger, and now you’ve lost trust before you said a single word.

If you nodded along to more than one of these... it’s time. Let’s fix it before your headshot outlives another business pivot.

DM me “BRAND BUILDER” and let’s talk about what your session should look like.

I hate admitting this, but I broke one of my own rules.

Hot pink blazer, on camera, no neutral toned-down version, nothing. Every instinct I have says that’s too much, it’ll clash, it’ll fight the shot.

It felt SO good. Because look at these pics of Mitzie McMillen Fenberg .

That blazer is her brand color, so instead of playing it safe, we leaned all the way in. Neutral, quiet location, zero distractions, so that pink could do exactly what it’s supposed to do... make her impossible to scroll past.

Mitzie’s a real estate agent here in St. Louis, competing with a hundred other agents who all have the same navy blazer and the same handshake photo in front of the same “sold” sign. Her clients will remember her face, her style, and HER VIBE before they remember her listing.

She’s also one of my Brand Builder Members, which means this isn’t a one-and-done photo. It’s part of a full year of intentional content built around exactly what her business needs to stand out.

If you’ve got a color, a vibe, a thing that makes you you, and someone told you to tone it down for “professional” photos... don’t. Let’s build the shoot around it instead.

DM me “BUILDER” and let’s talk about what makes you impossible to scroll past.

That photo on your website? It’s been there since before half your current clients found you.

If it’s been over a year since you updated your business photos, we need to talk.

Because right now that same photo is doing double duty on your website, your LinkedIn, and your email signature... and it’s been there so long nobody even notices it anymore. That’s not brand consistency. That’s just background noise.

This is exactly where I come in. I build your content plan before I ever pick up my camera, so your entire shoot is on purpose. You walk away knowing exactly how to use your new photos, keeping your content fresh AND noticeable, not just pretty and forgotten.

You’ve got options here. One-off sessions if you need a quick reset. Or my most popular option, the Brand Builder Membership: a full year of content, wardrobe styling, **hair and makeup included!!**, and individualized support the whole way through.

As a St. Louis brand photographer, I built this because cool girls invest in their business. They don’t wait around hoping their 2022 headshot magically starts working harder.

Fall spots are filling quickly. Link in bio to learn more about Brand Builder.

Believe In Branding

I love seeing my branding photos on my client’s websites. It’s the culmination of a thorough planning meeting, multiple phone calls (and sometimes even late-night texts!) to get all the details just right. It’s not only magical to see my visions come to life, but to also watch my clients step into their confidence and power as a business owner because they are finally proud of their website. Knowing your brand and having a photographer that learns all about it before we even shoot is a game changer.

If you know it’s time for a refresh, I’m here. I’m so glad Aby Reitzel who owns Wildflower Counseling & Coaching chose me to elevate her online presence.

And if you know it’s time for a total redo of your entire site… call Mandy Alt | Marketing Consultant like Aby did. So many of my clients work with them. You won’t be disappointed!!! Make sure you tell them I sent you. 🪩👩‍💻

Would you let a stranger go through your closet? Lisa Jean’s clients do, and here’s why.

This is Lisa Jean with Lisa Jean✨Home Therapist , and she organizes homes for a living, which means her brand photos couldn’t just be pretty. They had to prove she’s good at her job.

So instead of staged “after” shots of an empty closet, we shot her in a real client’s closet, working side by side with them. You can actually see her process. You can see her working with someone, not just for them.

That’s the difference between a photo that looks nice and a photo that does its job. Anyone can show you a pretty closet. Not everyone can show you the person who made it happen, working elbow to elbow with a real client, and make you trust her enough to let her into your house.

As a St. Louis brand photographer, this is exactly the kind of shoot I love, because it’s not about pretty pictures. It’s about proof.

If you’re a St. Louis business owner whose work is genuinely good but your photos don’t prove it yet, this is your sign.

DM me. We’ll get a coffee date on the books (coffee on me!) and chat… zero pressure. 📷💗

My heart is broken… but this helps. 🥹 This is just a smidge of the messages I’ve gotten today. Thank you to everyone who has reached out or even thought of me today because of the magical Saint Dolly. To know that people think of me when they think of Dolly is the biggest compliment ever… and a small testament to how much I adore her. She will always be my hero. My inspiration. My fairy godmother.

More thoughts later… I’m off to light a candle for our girl and watch Steel Magnolias so Sally Field and I can cry it out together at the end. 💗

You have a folder with 200 photos in it, and you use maybe four of them. Let’s talk about why.

It’s not because you’re not photogenic. That’s not a real thing, and I need you to stop saying it about yourself.

It’s because somebody handed you a camera and said “just be natural,” which is the most useless direction a human being has ever received. Nobody’s natural on command. You froze. You didn’t know what to do with your hands. The photos came out stiff, and now they’re sitting in a folder doing nothing.

It’s also because nobody planned what those photos were actually for before you showed up. Pretty pictures with no strategy behind them are just... pretty pictures. They don’t sell anything. They don’t build trust. They just exist.

As a St. Louis brand photographer, this is the entire gap I built my business to close. I don’t just show up and shoot. I plan the posing, I plan the content, and I plan where every single image needs to live before we ever pick up a camera.

That’s the difference between a folder full of photos and a library that actually works for you.

DM me. Let’s grab coffee, my treat, and talk about whether I can help. Remember, cool girls invest in their business. 💗
