🚜❤️ Barn Series ❤️🚜

We've been driving the backroads of Southern Maryland, capturing barns of all kinds. To me, barns are the heartbeat of Southern Maryland here in God's Country. They're scattered everywhere, from quiet country roads to parks and even neighborhoods. Each one is a treasured piece of our history, representing generations of farmers, their families, their hard work, and the sacrifices they made.

This beautiful barn is tucked away in a housing development near a friend's house in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Since we were already exploring the backroads nearby, we made a quick detour to capture it. The moody clouds rolling overhead added so much character and made for a perfect backdrop.

Do you have a favorite barn you'd like us to capture? We'd love to hear about it! Leave a comment below or send us a message. We plan to feature some of these beautiful barns in our 2027 Southern Maryland Barn Calendar too.

We found quite a few barns on this trip, so stay tuned—there are many more to come! I'm really loving this series and hope you are too. ❤️📸🫶

I've been working really hard in vestibular physical therapy to improve my ability to capture birds in flight. Every time I had to quickly spin around to follow a bird, I'd get vertigo, making those shots incredibly difficult.

I also started using back-button focus on my camera, and those two things combined have made a huge difference!

I finally pulled out my 600mm lens at Gilbert Run Park a few weeks ago. It's usually too heavy for me, but I was able to use it with my monopod for a short time. When I looked at the photos and saw the osprey was actually in focus, I was so excited‼️ Woohoo🎉

Sometimes it's the little victories that remind us how far we've come. Never stop celebrating your progress, no matter how small it may seem. ❤️📸🫶

Lightpainting Series ✨️

A few times I've arrived for sunrise a little too early, which gives me the perfect opportunity to do some lightpainting before the sun peeks above the horizon.

There's something joyful about creating images in the darkness while waiting for the first light of day. It allows me to slow down, be creative, and experiment with light in a completely different way than I do during sunrise photography.

These lightpainting sessions have become a fun part of my morning routine, bridging the quiet darkness of night with the beauty of the coming sunrise. ❤️✨📸

Good morning❣️Hank gave me a little surprise during sunrise. A boat went by, and it must have startled him because he flew up into a nearby tree. That's the first time I've ever seen him do that.

It was a gentle reminder that even wildlife has moments when they need to step back, regroup, and find a place where they feel safe. A few minutes later, the peaceful morning returned, and so did Hank.

I hope you find a little peace in nature today and take a moment to appreciate the simple blessings all around you. ❤️❤️

Have a wonderful day friends❣️🫶

A few followers, Laura and Kathleen, invited us to photograph "Luther's Pink Barn" in Chaptico, which we shared yesterday. This is his other barn—the one where he got the color right instead of pink, but it's not really pink!😂 What a great story for this family farm and these barns. I would love to know how old these barns are too.

Saturday's thunderstorm put on quite a show‼️⛈️⚡

I managed to capture a few lightning bolts before they started striking way too close for comfort. After a few minutes, I decided it was time to head inside for safety and glad I did.

Nature is incredibly beautiful, powerful, and deserving of our respect. I'm grateful I was able to capture these moments safely. ⚡❤️

A few followers (Laura and Kathleen) invited us to photograph "Luther's Pink Barn" in Chaptico. The corn had grown so tall that we actually drove right past it! Thankfully, we spotted it on our way back.

John was driving, so I hopped out to take a photo. Even as tall as I am, I couldn't see over the corn to capture the barn. As I was trying to find a better angle by the road, the neighbor across the street, who was mowing his lawn, came over. I explained that we'd been invited to photograph the barn but didn't want to trespass since they didnt know we were coming today. With a smile, he told us it was perfectly fine to drive to the end of the cornfield for a better view.

He admitted he was mostly relieved we weren't there to steal corn. 🌽🌽Apparently, people actually stop in the middle of the day and help themselves! Really?!?!? 😡 Nope, we're not corn thieves.🌽😂 Just photographers with a passion for preserving the beauty and history of Southern Maryland's barns.❤️📷

We spotted this sweet little fawn running through a cornfield and stopped in the road and waited for him. A few moments later, he carefully crossed the road and disappeared safely into the woods.

Sometimes the simplest moments in nature become the most memorable. ❤️🦌
