Coming out of the darkness and into the light doesn't happen all at once, and it doesn't happen without a struggle. We all have the capacity to spread darkness or to listen to our better angels. Although nothing is guaranteed, I am hopeful.

On election day, polls opened at 6 am. I got there at ten minutes before 6. Already a long-ish line, but by 6 am, the line was four times as long (I'm guessing -- I couldn't see the end of it). I didn't need to vote this early as I wasn't on my way to work, but I wanted to vote first thing in the morning.

I was finished by 6:20 and back home by 6:30. My district isn't densely populated compared to lots of others, and it's overwhelmingly white. So, only a half-hour for the process itself. Privilege.

My respect, awe and gratitude to those who endured long, long waits of hours (and hours) in order to vote. You inspire me.

This election won't be over for a while. Be patient, and hang in there!

Every day since then, I've been learning and growing and expanding my skills. I'll never stand still -- always working hard to keep improving. They all looked like movie stars back then. I'd like to share some photos of my mother on this Mothers' Day. One is of my mother, her sister, and their mother. One is of my mother, and my daughter. The last one is of my mother and father on their wedding day, since today is also my father's birthday, the first one since he died last August.
