We recently had the opportunity to capture the unique beauty of Love Valley, North Carolina—a true Western town nestled among the Brushy Mountains. 🤠🐎

Love Valley was founded in 1954 by Andy Barker, who left a successful contracting career to fulfill his childhood dream of building an authentic cowboy town. Its dirt Main Street, wooden boardwalks and hitching rails still invite visitors to slow down and step back in time. The town even hosted a massive rock festival headlined by the Allman Brothers Band in 1970!

From above, we enjoyed incredible views of Love Valley’s rodeo arena and its one-of-a-kind “downtown,” which looks like a scene straight out of the Old West. Our flight also offered beautiful views of Fox Mountain—the highest point in Iredell County at approximately 1,760 feet—and the peaceful waters of Fox Mountain Lake.

We could already see the first leaves beginning to change across the mountains. Autumn is slowly making its way into the North Carolina foothills, and it won’t be long before the Brushies are covered in fall color. 🍂⛰️

Contracted Pyrotechnics

09/12/2026

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed.

As fireworks illuminated the sky over the Iredell County Fair this year, they represented far more than entertainment. Each burst of red, white, and blue was a reminder of the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the strength and unity America displayed in the days that followed.

As a first responder-owned business, Foothills Aerial Services proudly remembers the fallen, honors the survivors, and salutes every first responder, service member, and ordinary American who answered the call.

May we always remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the unity that brought our nation together.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

There’s something special about the view above the sleepy little town of Rhodhiss, North Carolina. Nestled along the Catawba River, this quiet community may be small, but it has a fascinating history.

A few fun facts about Rhodhiss:

🌙 According to the town’s history, fabric used for the American flag planted on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission was woven at Burlington Mills in Rhodhiss.

📍 Rhodhiss sits in two counties—Burke and Caldwell—with the Catawba River running through the center of town.

🏭 The community grew around a cotton mill that opened in 1902 and was officially incorporated in 1903.

🔤 The name “Rhodhiss” combines the last names of the town’s founders, John M. Rhodes and George B. Hiss.

⚡ Following construction of a new dam in 1924, Rhodhiss became one of the earliest fully electrified towns in the United States.

From its textile heritage and place in space history to the peaceful river views that still define it today, Rhodhiss is another reminder that some of North Carolina’s smallest towns have the biggest stories.

While capturing aerial images of the 2026 Iredell County Agricultural Fair this week, it was great to see that site preparation is well underway for Phase 2 of the fairgrounds redevelopment project! 🏗️

The centerpiece of the expansion will be a 10,000-square-foot farmers market featuring 29 vendor stalls, a commercial kitchen, offices, conference space, and restrooms. The building is also being designed to serve as an emergency shelter during severe weather and other disasters.

Also included are up to 775 paved parking spaces near the Murdock Road entrance. It was great to see event organizers already making use of this additional parking capacity, which noticeably improved traffic flow along North Main Street and Murdock Road.

As this year’s fair concludes, it’s exciting to see this investment in local agriculture, small businesses, emergency preparedness, and community infrastructure beginning to take shape. Officials expect the project to be completed before the start of the 2027 fair, and we look forward to following its progress from above!

After yesterday’s storm clouds cleared, it turned into a beautiful evening at the 90th Annual Iredell County Agricultural Fair! 🎡🌅

This year’s theme is “A Memory Worth Making, a Story Worth Telling,” so Foothills Aerial Services got in the air to help capture and tell that story from above!

The fair is produced by the Kiwanis Club of Statesville in partnership with the Iredell County Cooperative Extension. While the carnival rides and fair food are always popular, the heart of the fair is its celebration of local agriculture and its support of youth through 4-H, FFA, livestock shows, and agricultural exhibits.

The fair continues through September 12, 2026. Come make a few memories and become part of the story!

As I drove down Highway 64 through the Cool Springs area of Iredell County this morning, I couldn’t help but notice just how photogenic the sunrise was. As the early morning sun began steaming the dew from the landscape, it created a beautiful scene that was simply too good not to capture. 🌅

Sometimes the best views are the ones you never planned to find.
