While perspective is most simply put where we stand, point of view is our chosen angle in how we choose to use our camera. We can further refine perspective through a diverse and intentional shift in our point of view. By lowering to the ground and thoughtfully including the wildflowers, creating an illusion of depth and layering, the image feels entirely different.

There is no one else in the world I would want to move to a foreign country with — in the same summer that we spend 6 weeks roadtripping the Alps, expand my working portfolio to 3 new continents, launch (after a full renovation) a cozy cabin experience, and also background plan a wedding. Although maybe nobody else would be crazy enough to try?? You make me feel like I can do anything, and this season of testing that limit is quite fun.

Golden washed, textural and ethereal. One of my favorite creative edits last year from Grace and Bryan’s seaside elopement. Never forget to explore extending the narrative, and feeling of a session throughout your editing process. Rather than moving through the motions of consistency and repetition, ask yourself how you can further communicate the feelings of being there.

We can’t explore composition without first understanding perspective, and we can’t cover that without understanding what happens with our gear.

Do you know the difference between perspective compression and perspective exaggeration?

Photography is a beautifully intuitive art form, but if you skip over the basics you’re missing the tools to evolve as a storyteller.

Rather than reacting to the gear in your hand, let’s understand how to use it to expand your narrative.

Depth, distance, scale and relation are powerful tools that can emphasize, isolate, create hierarchy, and more. Explore these ideas with me in Making Photos.

Amy & Josh, celebrating marriage in their place.

The adventure of off roading to a peak just outside of the town they fell in love with and decided to build a life, met by the reverence of standing witness in with only the dry August peaks as witness.

From the biggest blue sky painted in clouds to a crescent moon draped over the auburn field, it was a true day spent shared in the privacy of nature.
