Was reading an article on how camera repair places can tell what kind of shooter you are when you send your gear in.....number one indicator of someone who pushes their gear to the limits is the condition of the grips.
Nikon has always had a bad reputation when it comes to their grip rubber. That same nice, grippy rubber that feels supple and molds to your hand, by design, is a bit stretchy, and over time expands beyond the limits of the body. They become loose and ragged about the edges and eventually come off.
Nikon had replaced the grips on my oldest D3s a couple times, but after awhile you just leave them off and keep shooting.
This last one (my second D3s) was just under 1 million shots when the shutter decided to fly apart. A fitting end to an absolute workhorse that served me so very well. I could replace the shutter and I'm sure it would have another million stellar images in it, but I think leaving it as-is, to live amongst my other Nikon 'shelf sitters' is much more fitting. Signs of a life well lived for an old camera, and an old pichur taker.....

Ringing in a piece of American history right here in Illinois! Standing before the historic Liberty Bell of the West in Kaskaskia—a incredible symbol of freedom tucked away on Kaskaskia Island. Makes a great day trip, although you have to wind your way around this little corner of Illinois to get there. Side note, if you go, and the 'shrine' appears to be closed and locked, hit the button along side the door to reveal the bell! Get out.....start Exploring Illinois......



Cast in 1741 in France as a gift from King Louis XV to the Catholic Church in the Illinois Country, this 650-pound bronze bell has a rich place in American Revolutionary War history.

On the night of July 4, 1778, Colonel George Rogers Clark and his Virginia militia captured the British-held town of Kaskaskia without firing a shot. Upon being liberated, jubilant townspeople rang the church bell in celebration—eleven years before the famous Philadelphia Liberty Bell acquired its iconic name. Today, the bell rests in the Kaskaskia Bell State Memorial, displaying its own historic hairline crack as a testament to centuries of resilience.

Outstanding in her field.....this white-tailed doe decided to attend the Monday Morning Meeting, striking a pose among the wild yellow blooms right here in Central Illinois. They can leap up to 10 feet high and run up to 30 miles per hour....they make gliding through our Midwestern prairies look completely effortless.
