A Wednesday Worth Showing Up For. 🦅🌿
Juvenile red‑shouldered hawks always carry a certain curiosity in their eyes, and this one was no exception. Perched calmly at Rhodes Jordan Park, it gave me a moment that felt both quiet and powerful. The softer brown tones of its juvenile plumage, the streaking across the chest, and that sharp, already‑confident gaze all hint at the raptor it’s growing into.
What I love most about young hawks is how they study everything. They’re alert, but not rushed. Present, but still learning the rules of the world. The blurred greens behind it created a natural frame, pulling all the attention to that focused expression. Moments like this remind me that growth isn’t always loud—sometimes it’s found in stillness, in observation, in simply being aware of your surroundings.

**What Do Eastern Bluebirds Eat??? 🐦🤔**

Apparently… parts of trees are on the menu! 😂

This eastern bluebird caught my attention when it started picking at some white material growing on a tree branch. I’m not completely sure what it was eating, but whatever it was, the bluebird seemed interested enough to grab a little snack before suddenly taking off upward and out of the frame. 🐦💨

A 24-second reminder that you never really know what you'll discover when you're paying attention to the little things in nature.

A Study in Stillness and Style. 🌊🕊️
Reddish egrets have a reputation for being some of the most animated hunters in the marsh—darting, dancing, and stirring up the water like performers on a stage. But every now and then, you catch one in a moment of complete calm.
This bird stood alone in the shallow blue, framed by its own reflection like nature’s version of a mirror portrait. The reddish crown and neck, the slate-gray body, the long legs built for wading—everything came together in a way that felt intentional, almost meditative. No chase, no frenzy, just presence.
Images like this remind me that wildlife doesn’t always need motion to tell a story. Sometimes the quiet moments carry the most weight. Keep showing up, keep observing, and keep letting these small scenes shape the way you see the world. Inspiration is everywhere if you slow down long enough to notice it.

Labor Day Mood. 🦉😂
That look when the weekend is over, the work week is starting, and you're already questioning everybody's decisions. This burrowing owl looks completely unimpressed—as if Monday showed up a little too early.
Surrounded by small tree trunks, soft bokeh branches, and layers of greenery, this little guy somehow managed to say everything without saying a word. Sometimes wildlife doesn't need a caption... but this expression definitely deserved one. 😂

Sunday Calls for a Change. 🦅🎶
This young red-shouldered hawk was facing to the left, but apparently had something to say to whatever was happening behind it. With its head turned back to the right and its beak wide open, it looks like it was caught mid-call, almost as if it was checking in with the rest of the family. The fully engaged nictitating membrane—the bird's protective third eyelid—adds another fascinating detail to the moment.
The small forward-pointing branch and the two contrasting tree trunks create an almost natural “11” around the hawk, while the soft greenery in the background keeps the attention right where it belongs. Sometimes the best photographs aren't perfectly posed—they're the moments when wildlife is simply being itself. Keep watching, keep learning, and keep showing up. You never know what story the next frame will tell.

Sometimes You Just Have to Pause and Look Around. 🦅🌿
This young red-shouldered hawk seemed to be taking in the world around it, looking off to its left as it calmly perched on a weathered branch with patches of light green bark. Behind it, the soft bokeh of vine-covered trees creates a natural frame, with small glimpses of bright sky peeking through the greenery.
There’s something about watching a young hawk like this that makes you appreciate the quiet moments. Not every encounter has to involve action—sometimes simply stopping, observing, and taking in your surroundings is enough.
Take a moment this weekend to slow down, look around, and appreciate where you are. You might be surprised by what you notice.

Friday Flow. 🦆🌿
This pair of hooded mergansers looked completely unbothered as they cruised across the water, heading to their right while the afternoon light caught them from the side. The brownish-green tones in the water appear to be reflections from the surrounding trees and foliage, giving the scene a natural, earthy feel.
And if you look closely, there's another male hooded merganser hanging out in the soft bokeh in the upper left of the frame. Sometimes the details you almost miss are what make an image even more interesting.
As you head into the weekend, keep moving at your own pace. You don't have to rush to make progress—just keep flowing forward.

🏠 TBT: Sliding Into the Nest! 🦅😂
This male osprey looks like he's sliding into home plate after delivering another stick for the nest. With those wings spread and feet reaching forward, I couldn't help but see a little baseball action in this moment. ⚾
Ospreys can make countless trips carrying nesting material, and every stick has a purpose in building and maintaining the family home. Sometimes wildlife photography gives you more than a bird—you get a whole story in one frame.
Keep showing up, keep watching, and don't be afraid to find the humor in the moments nature gives you. You never know when the next shot will be a home run.

Ever wonder what happens when one red-shouldered hawk is looking for a little loving and the other one isn't quite feeling it? Well… I may have caught the answer on camera. 👀

**“Wait... What Was That?” 👀🦉**
This burrowing owl was facing to its right but turned its head back over its left shoulder, giving me a curious look with that bright right eye. That slight tilt of the head almost makes it look like it's trying to figure something out. 😂
Standing right at the edge of its burrow, you can see its little legs planted in the dirt while the soft bokeh of grass and tiny blooms create a beautiful natural backdrop. Sometimes it's the expression that makes the photograph—and this little one definitely had a look. 🦉👀
