Osceola… ✅

2025 Turkey Tour is underway and Florida didn’t disappoint. This has been one I’ve wanted to check off the bucket list for years. 40 hours of driving, 2,000+ miles, and multiple blow outs on the trailer all to hunt a total of 2 hours. I tagged out in the first 30 minutes and we got CB one shortly after daylight the next day.

Had a great week at the camp with my Dad. This ain’t “Puddin” but a great management deer none the less being a 4.5 Year Old and weighing 174lbs.

This hunt is one I will never forget. I watched him make a scrape at 15 Yards and then skirted around me headed away from me. At 75 Yards I hit him with a grunt bleet sequence and he stopped on a dime and turned 180 and came right in to 30 yards. I shot right over his back and couldn’t believe it. He runs 60-70 yards and stops trying to figure out what just happened. As he turns to walk away, I hit him with a soft bleet and sucker turns right back around and walks broadside at 20 yards. When I shot, I knew the sound and his reaction combined had to mean he was done. I was fired up however, he ran 20 yards then started walking and when he got to 40 yards, he stopped and blew at me twice. At this point my heart sank as I’ve never shot a deer and had them stop and blow at me nor have I ever missed the same deer twice in a matter of minutes. I sit a while processing everything that just happened and rewatched the footage of my first shot. I proceed to climb down and grab my first arrow, when I make it to my second arrow, I find it covered in blood and immediately get fired up again. The first 10 yards looks like a murder scene but I still can’t get it out of my head that he stopped and blew at me twice after being shot. I decide to back out and go back to camp to get a plan. Dad and I trailed blood for about 60 yards and lose it and my heart sinks again thinking I’ve wounded this deer. I would rather miss one than wound them. I called my buddy JD and talk it through with him. After seeing pics, the blood color didn’t look too promising as it didn’t look like lung or vitals, but he was loading the pups up and heading our way. He gets there and they make quick work of the track. He went about another 50 yards past where we found last blood. I ended up getting the liver. Man what a hunt. The quest for “Puddin” continues…

Not a better way to start the day of Thanksgiving than to watch this video. It popped up on my memories this morning as I’m sitting here drinking coffee and I’m glad it did. God has truly blessed me with a beautiful family, tons of great friends, a beautiful home, a great job, and the list goes on, but I’m very thankful for the Dream Hunt Foundation and getting the opportunity to make these kids dreams come true. Bryce Buchanan you’re still my Hero little buddy. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

The views that the earths rotation around the sun provides from a mountain side is unexplainable. Thankful I got to enjoy another trip out west this year. If it’s on your bucket list, just go. You won’t regret it.
