“If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give in to it.”

I came across Mary Oliver’s poem Don’t Hesitate during a late-night editing session, and it made me think about one joy that has stayed with me for more than 20 years: photography.

I wasn’t particularly talented when I started. I just kept shooting, learning, and sharing my images on Flickr, where I found a little community called “Starting Out as a Wedding Photographer.”

20+ years later, I’m still learning. Wedding, fashion, portrait, street, food, still life… every genre gives me another reason to stay curious and excited about photography.

So it feels especially full circle that September 18–20, I’ll be in Minneapolis with Flickr for MODE Photo Festival, leading photowalks with Sony | Alpha.

“Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid of its plenty.
Joy is not made to be a crumb.”

— Mary Oliver ❤️

Come find me at the Sony booth and celebrate the joy of photography with us. DM me for photowalk times + sign-up details.

Sony Kando 2026 ended with a carnival 🎡 theme and a little trip down memory lane.

In Mad Men, Don Draper called nostalgia “delicate, but potent,” and the carousel a time machine that takes us back to the moments we love.

Maybe photography is our own little carousel. Images, videos, people and places, going around and around, preserving the core memories we want to keep.

Until the next Sony Kando Trip ❤️

We are not born who we are.

Through repetition, we learn to see.
A hand learns precision.
A mind learns patience.
And somewhere along the way, we become what we do.

Four photographers. Four different perspectives. Four different paths. Wedding. Concert. Portrait. The world of Sony.

We each photographed the same model, yet saw something completely different. Different disciplines, different experiences & walks of life, different ways of seeing.

And somehow, photography brought us all here together.

Thank you Sony Kando Trip 2026 for giving us the space to create, experiment, inspire each other.

We become what we do.

This is why I still love destination wedding photography after 17 years.

To keep exploring. To keep seeing. And to create photographs that could only exist there, with her, in that exact moment.

I want to remember how it felt to be there.

My eyes. My Lens. My memories.  Contact for 2027 schedule to EU, Asia or Morocco

The older I get, the more I realize how much Asia is a part of who I am.

From Shanghai to Hong Kong, Tokyo to Macau, and Vietnam, I’m drawn to the light, the people, the streets, and all the little moments that somehow feel familiar.

As an Asian American, photographing Asia has become a way of exploring my own identity and sharing how I see this part of the world through my eyes.

After 17 years, that still matters to me.

My eyes. My hands. My memories. My imagination.

No AI. Just photographs made from being there.

Hong Kong has always had a certain feeling for me.

Neon on wet streets. A little blur, a little grain. A glance that disappears before you realize you saw it.

After 17 years, I’m still drawn to the same thing. Feeling over perfection. Moments that feel more like memories than photographs.

Maybe that’s why Wong Kar Wai’s movie world keeps finding its way into mine and my inspiration for all of my Hong Kong photos.

In 2027, Scott Robert Lim and I are bringing that inspiration to Hong Kong & Macau for our In the Mood for Love Wedding & Portrait Workshop. ❤️

More soon. This one feels special.

In celebration of World Photography Day, I wanna share my inspiration behind my style of work.

I didn’t appreciate Wong Kar Wai’s films until I was in my 30s.

When I first watched them in the ’90s, I remember thinking… everything is dark and faded, everyone is sad, and why does love never work out? 😂

Years later, during my own journey of discovering photography, I watched them again and suddenly saw everything differently.

The neon glow on skin. The shadows. The movement. That feeling of unattainable love, always fading just as you’re trying to hold onto it.

That visual world has stayed with me ever since.

From my Sony | Alpha A99 in the early 2010s to my Sony A1 II today, I’m still chasing that fleeting beauty, the kind of moment that feels like it might disappear right after I press the shutter.

In 2027, Scott Robert Lim and I are bringing that inspiration back to Hong Kong & Macau for our **In the Mood for Love Wedding & Portrait Workshop.** ❤️

Stay tuned for dates.

From the humble cubicle in Concord CA as an Analyst/Programmer to global destination wedding photographer. Somehow, this became my life. ❤️

Photography started as something I loved doing outside my 9-5. I never imagined that little obsession would eventually take me around the world, introduced me to so many incredible people, and become a 17 year career.

Over the years, I realized having the right tools and creating beautiful images is only the beginning. What matters is how you see. Recognizing that pocket of beautiful light, knowing where to place your subject so they look their best, setting the scene for maximum visual impact, and being ready to freeze that decisive moment.

And that’s exactly what I’ll be sharing this weekend at Action Camera Rocklin CA this weekend

📍 Editorial Portrait Experience

Friday, August 14
Presentation on posing, finding pockets of natural light, composition, and when I choose LED, on camera or off camera flash.

Saturday, August 15
Hands on shooting with fashion models, wedding couples, one of a kind wardrobe pieces and highly stylized sets.

Come shoot, experiment and create with us. 📸
