📸 A Little PSA About Your Photo Galleries! ❤️

I wanted to take a moment to talk about something that’s come up quite a few times recently.

Over the past few months, I’ve had several past clients reach out looking for photos from sessions and weddings that were delivered anywhere from one to four years ago, only to realize they never downloaded their galleries.

And while I absolutely LOVE that you’re coming back to revisit those memories, I need to share a little reminder about how online galleries work.

Your online gallery is a delivery service, not a permanent storage solution.

As a photographer, I photograph thousands upon thousands of images every year. Between weddings, families, seniors, and everything in between, those files take up an incredible amount of storage space.

In order to continue delivering galleries to new clients, I periodically have to remove older galleries from my website.

I do keep backups of my work whenever possible, but external hard drives can fail, files can become corrupted, and technology is unfortunately never foolproof. I’ve experienced this firsthand and have done my best to recover what I could.

Once your gallery has been delivered, it is your responsibility to download and safely store your photos.

I genuinely cannot stress enough how important this is! Download them to your computer, save them to an external hard drive, back them up to the cloud, and PLEASE don’t rely on just one copy.

If you reach out years later looking for your photos, I will absolutely do my best to see if I still have them. However, I cannot guarantee that those images will still be available.

I put so much time, love, and care into capturing and editing your memories, and the last thing I ever want is for those memories to be lost simply because they were never downloaded.

So here’s your friendly reminder: If you’ve had a gallery delivered by me and haven’t downloaded it yet, PLEASE go do that! ❤️

And if you downloaded your photos but haven’t backed them up somewhere else, consider this your sign!

Your memories deserve more than one home. 📸❤️

Katie & Tim said “I do” at Sugarloaf Mountain, surrounded by family, friends, and the prettiest fall foliage. 🍂🤍

With a little help from their pups, these two had the sweetest ceremony on the beach before heading to the King Pine Room for a beautiful evening—and the biggest tiramisu cake I’ve ever seen! 😍

The kids busted out some of the sickest dance moves, even if a few knees were sacrificed in the process. 😂 That dance floor did not disappoint!

I just love Sugarloaf weddings. There’s something so special about celebrating your love in such a beautiful little corner of Maine, and Katie & Tim’s day was no exception.

Sarah & Drew said “I do” at Sugarloaf Mountain with what I’m pretty sure was PEAK foliage showing off all around us. Those colors?! Come on. 🍂😍

From getting ready in the beautiful bridal suite to an epic chairlift ride up Whiffletree for a private first look and vows, this day was something special. 🤍

When we met back in the spring for their engagement photos, we clicked right off the bat. I knew their wedding would be full of laughs and a relaxed atmosphere, and that’s exactly what it was—hanging out with friends while capturing their beautiful love. And I mean… these two are SO PHOTOGENIC! 🔥

It was also my first time photographing parent dances on the beach, and let me just say: I AM HERE FOR IT! Future couples, please consider this!!! Such a sweet way to share those moments with the mountain behind you. 🥹

Shauna & Derek said “I do” at The Nest on Saddleback, and let me tell you… that mountain air was not messing around. 🥶🤍

I busted out my recess-duty teacher jacket, ski socks, AND my famous white Carhartt hat that I apparently can’t go anywhere without… and I was STILL cold. I can only imagine how Shauna felt braving that frigid air in the most stunning dress! 😍

You can never predict wedding-day weather, so sometimes you’ve just gotta roll with the punches—and that’s exactly what we did! One or two minutes outside here and there, then back in to warm up. These two still got stunning images without spending forever freezing on the mountain. 🙌🏻

A HUGE shout-out to Ellen, who went above and beyond to make sure Shauna and Derek had the perfect day and evening. And let me tell you, she’s got quite the eye for a good photo spot, too!

📸 So you want to be a photographer? 😂

Well, buckle up, buttercup, because it’s a whole lot more than buying a fancy camera and pushing a button. 💁🏻‍♀️

Let’s talk about the glamorous life of a photographer, shall we?

First off, say goodbye to your weekends. 👋🏼 While everyone else is at the lake, having BBQs, going camping, or spending time with their families, you’re spending time with someone else’s family. You’re capturing their memories while missing out on making some of your own.

You’re on your feet for HOURS. Squatting, bending, running, climbing, carrying equipment, sweating in places you didn’t know could sweat. Your back hurts, your knees hurt, and if you’re lucky, you might actually remember to take a p*e break. 😂

And let’s not forget the financial side of this little adventure. 💸

SD cards, SSDs, external hard drives (because apparently we need 47 of them), camera bodies, lenses that cost more than some people’s vehicles, batteries, editing software, gallery hosting, website fees, CRM subscriptions, insurance, advertising, education, equipment maintenance, and the list goes ON.

Oh, and heaven forbid something breaks. 🫠

But then comes my favorite part…

“Wait, you charge HOW MUCH for pictures?!”

Ma’am. Sir. Respectfully. 😂

I promise you, you’re not just paying me to show up for an hour, push a button, and send you some pictures.

Because when I get home, my job is FAR from over.

I’m downloading and backing up hundreds, sometimes THOUSANDS of images. I’m sorting through every single one, finding the moments that matter, choosing the best images, correcting colors, adjusting lighting, editing, retouching, organizing, and carefully putting together a gallery that doesn’t just show you what happened.

It tells the story of what it FELT like to be there.

And that takes HOURS. Sometimes days.

Then there’s answering emails, sending contracts, creating timelines, managing bookings, updating websites, posting on social media, paying taxes, and trying to remember what day of the week it is. 🤪

And somewhere in all of that, we’re supposed to have a personal life, too.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE what I do. I love the people I meet, the families who welcome me into their lives, the couples who trust me with one of their biggest days, and the moments I get to freeze in time.

But I think sometimes people forget that behind every beautiful photograph is a real person who has poured their time, money, creativity, energy, and heart into making it happen.

We aren’t just photographers.

We’re business owners, accountants, marketers, editors, storytellers, problem solvers, occasional wedding dress bustle experts, professional kid entertainers, and sometimes even emergency therapists. 😂

And we’re often doing it all while running on caffeine, a granola bar, and approximately four hours of sleep.

So the next time you see a photographer’s pricing and think, “Wow, that’s expensive,” I hope you’ll remember you’re not just paying for the hour they’re standing in front of you with a camera.

You’re paying for everything it took to get them there, and everything they’ll do long after you’ve gone home.

Because at the end of the day, photography isn’t just pointing a camera and taking a picture.

It’s pouring a little piece of yourself into preserving a piece of someone else’s life. ❤️

And despite the sore backs, missed weekends, overflowing hard drives, and questionable bladder health…

I wouldn’t trade the privilege of telling your stories for anything. 📸❤️
