Well said! 🙌🏻
Just a little something to think about: BE RESPECTFUL OF INDIVIDUAL FARM'S RULES
Each farm or hatchery has their own rules and regulations in place. Typically, this is for the safety, health and well-being of their families and animals.
So when someone tells you they won't allow visitors, or won't allow you to come to their house to pick out birds, it DOESN'T mean they are hiding something.
We don't know you (the buyer)! The internet is full of scammers and those looking to take advantage. Meeting on farm allows people to see your place, what you have, how easy access may be for swiping or stealing... It happens all the time! Meeting off farm for pick up is safer.
We also don't know where you have been previously, what you have been exposed to, or what diseases you may be carrying from your own animals at home. Many diseases are carried on your shoes and can be spread from walking around. Diseases that will live on your soil for generations and never go away. Diseases than can decimate flocks or herds. So when we politely tell you we don't allow visitors for biosecurity reasons, it really is to keep our birds and animals safe and healthy.
Respect goes a long way too. We often farm full time, have a job off the farm, a family to take care of, and hatch simply as a hobby on the side (not that we had any spare time to begin with!). So asking that we "call you" to chat about birds or sales, meet up to "see what you have", etc is really asking a lot. Time is precious and it's often quicker and easier to send pictures and answer questions through messages when we have a spare minute or two. Then meet to complete the exchange and not waste anyone's time. So don't be upset by this and think we are "hiding something".
