Today, I want to take a moment to recognize some people I appreciate.

Not because I am promoting them. Not because I expect anything from them.

Just because sometimes people deserve to hear, “I see you. What you do matters.”

I am so proud of Tim Potts of Sturgis and 605 Sports (esp. Matt Gade) as a whole.

Going around, photographing our athletes, and sharing your gifts behind the camera is truly amazing. As a parent, I simply cannot get to all of my kids' events. Sadly, many of the sports my daughter is involved in happen during the day, and when I only have four personal days, I simply cannot make them all.

So, it has honestly makes my heart so happy to see a photo from an event that I couldn't attend — or to find one that I can purchase and keep.

THANK YOU!!!

Fun fact: I was a sports photographer for six years at a daily newspaper before I got married and moved out West. I knew that once I had kids, trying to work around everyone else's sporting events while also raising a family would be incredibly difficult. Maybe that's part of the reason I never looked into working for a newspaper again after I moved. (Or working until midnight trying to meet deadlines, I don't miss that.)

But I want all of you who spend your evenings and weekends traveling to sporting events, carrying your cameras, and capturing these moments to know something:

I see you.

And as a mom who can't always be in the stands, I want you to know how much these photos mean to me. They give me a little piece of moments I wasn't able to be there for, and I treasure that more than you probably realize.

But I also know that behind every person who is out there photographing our kids has a family of their own. There are evenings, weekends, travel, and time away from home that make it possible for you to do what you do.

So this isn't just a thank-you for the photos.

It's a thank-you for the time, heart, and sacrifice that goes into capturing these moments for all of us.

Your families matter. You matter. And the gift you're giving our community matters, too.

I see you. And I am grateful. ❤️

Holy moly… these Cross Country kids are just built a little different.

Yesterday’s meet was in the 90s, and these kids just kept going. No stopping so everyone could grab a water break. No complaining. Just one foot in front of the other and keep working.

I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of them. ❤️

I think Cross Country is a lot like Track in that way—no matter where the kids are from, you find yourself cheering for all of them. You watch them push through, dig deep, and finish, and you can’t help but be proud of them.

Maybe it’s because I know for a FACT I would not be able to run that far in 90-degree weather ... or any weather. hehe

Talk about full circle. ❤️

This was such a fun mini session with the famous Miss Tillie! And I absolutely love her story.

There are probably others who can tell her full story much better than I can, but here is the part I know…

Tillie spent the first part her life in some pretty terrible conditions. Then, a rescue (B-Squad Dog Rescue) came in to change everything.

And here’s the part that makes this story extra special to me — my sister was the one driving the rescue van that weekend. When she arrived home with this sweet pup, Tillie stayed at my sister’s house to be fostered.

Eventually, it was time for Tillie to find her forever home. A very sweet… oh, very sweet woman adopted her and brought her home to the West side of the state.

And how blessed am I that I eventually got to meet this sweet soul — well, actually, two sweet souls. Tillie and her amazing new mom.

So when I say this session felt like a full-circle moment, I truly mean it.

I’m so grateful I got to capture a little piece of their story. ❤️

This is one of those sessions that I will truly feel blessed to have been a part of.

Senior N absolutely ROCKED her senior session!

We bounced around from location to location, and she embraced every place we visited. I had so much fun capturing these photos and watching her personality shine through.

Senior N, I hope you have one of the best senior years! You have such a bright future ahead of you, and I can’t wait to see where life takes you. ❤️

A couple of weeks ago, on our way back from Sioux Falls, we took another little detour—a place that definitely wasn’t on our original trip plan. But I can promise you, the next time we head home, I’ll be taking my camera and spending some real time here. ❤️

I grew up in Ethan, and on the drive back to my parents’ house from Sioux Falls, my daughter and I started talking about checking out Life Creamery in Ethan. I’m honestly not sure why it took us so long to go!

After stopping in the store to pick up (and try) their chocolate milk—SOOO GOOD— along with some cheese and ice cream, we took a quick little stroll around the farm.

We were there pretty close to closing time, and since we had ice cream sitting in the car, we had to make our walk a little faster than I would have liked.

But I absolutely loved how laid-back everything felt.

Another couple was there slowly wandering around and taking videos. Cats and kittens were roaming around, the big dogs were getting plenty of lovings, and the emus were making their very unique emu sounds. We got to pet the horses and the donkey, too.

Honestly, our visit felt way too rushed. But that’s okay, because we’ll be back.

This place is a 10/10 for me—and next time, I’m bringing my camera! 📷❤️

And now I want to know… what other little gems are out there that we need to check out?

Black Hills, East River, or anywhere in between—I’m always up for finding a new place to explore! Drop your favorites below. 👇

They say the more kids you have, the fewer photos you take. I think the same can be true for our dogs. ❤️

Lux is our third pup, and somehow she hasn't had nearly as many moments in front of my camera as our first two.

So one beautiful evening, we headed out together to change that.

Because every member of the family deserves to have their story captured—even the four-legged ones.

I just love this sweet girl's personality.

She was an absolute joy to photograph and did so well exploring the hills.

Wildflowers, trees, the beauty of the Black Hills, and one incredibly sweet pup... what could be better?

When you plan a trip out and accidentally end up somewhere you weren’t expecting…

A trip to Falls Park somehow turned into a stop at the —and I was blown away by what I found!

Everything at the farmers market was stunning. The produce was beautiful, the flowers were gorgeous, and every vendor we interacted with was amazing!

The only downside? We had plans to visit a few other places in Sioux Falls, so I couldn’t buy all the flowers I wanted because they would have been sitting in a hot car. And I definitely wish I had spent more time wandering around.

So, if you’re in the Sioux Falls area while the farmers market is happening—GO!

Beautiful produce, beautiful flowers, and some really wonderful local vendors. I’m already wishing I had more time (and a cooler car) to bring some of it home!

Definitely a happy little detour that I didn’t plan for!

Oh my goodness...

The light, the scenery, and one beautiful pup. Moments like these are a reminder of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

Sometimes all it takes is a little golden light and a happy pup to make you stop and appreciate it all.
