Dawn Wessman Photography Hello! I am Dawn Wessman, and I chase light. Whether seeking light in the natural world, or the people whom I photograph, it continually brings me joy.

My hope is that the portraits will bring you joy as well!

My job is not to capture or create perfection: My task is to witness the truth and goodness and beauty that is your family’s humanity. To remind you that life is dialectic— two opposing ideas— life is incredible, and life is challenging. The hard is worth doing. Life is worth recording. Worth remembering. Worth celebrating.

Your story matters.

This friend! He designed his ensembles and was an artistic blast to work with. Swipe to #2 to see one of the great joys of Senior Sessions— mom. It never fails to amaze me that although prints are two dimensional, the emotion and years of care literally leap off the screen as a living thing.

I adore Newborn Sessions with a toddler sibling! I imagine it’s a bit like National Geo wildlife photography, capturing two year-olds in their native habitats. This dad made for an incredible impromptu photo-assistant-baby-wrangler while we created mom’s maternity portraits. The resulting images reflect his patience and care.

The most interesting things in art always happen on the line of light and shadow.

Perhaps in life as well.

Over the last six months I’ve tiptoed in the shadows a bit with a back surgery, moving our family, a beginning graduate program.

This month I began dancing my way back to that line where interesting things happen.

Challenging things. Brave thjngs. Imperfect things. Uncertain things.

Art things. Love things. Dream things.

So I’m back, friends. I’ve missed you. Let’s find might and shadow together again. .

I’m so stoked that is now open and firing away to help to tell your family story. I’m currently booking for fall family, sunset beach and seniors. It brings me particular joy to create this art for my friends and family. At heart, my love language is gifts, and my hope in each portrait that you’ll see yourself from the perspective of someone who loves you and thinks the best of you and your tribe. That often translates into snaps of your children that resonate strongly with your own deep feelings about your children. Oh— and did I mention I make it quick, easy and fun? Bring me your reluctant spouses and moody teens— we got this!

Look at this gorgeous bride and her man! I read in Crucial Conversations this week from , that the most powerful human bonding mechanisms is creation. From starting a business, learning a skill together, cooking a meal in tandem to forging a new eternal family unit— making something novel cements souls together, engenders deep loyalty, and begets more spark for creativity. Essentially, love is living art. I count it a true privilege to see couples embark on this living masterpiece.

Years ago I rented a lens that would allow me to capture what my heart saw in the families around me. This was one of my first little ones, and I am so grateful for the joy their sticky fingers and artful scribbles bring me. -
