MAY 2026: The past few days have been a little batty at dad’s house. At one point, I had three newborn Little Brown Bats in my care. Thankfully, all three have been returned to their mothers, one of which is pictured in the first photo. 😅

MAY 2026: In addition to the occasional drive through the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, I’ve also been doing a lot of backyard birding during the past several weeks. With my big lens, the proximity of dad’s house to the timber, and the vantage point of my bedroom window, I’m basically able to wake up, grab my camera, and take photos from my makeshift hide; all while never actually getting out of bed.

03 MAY 2026: Dad mentioned there were ospreys nesting up near Colfax so we took a detour through Quarry Springs park on our way home from Des Moines. I caught these two engaging in some “risky business” on the nearby power lines.
