Yesterday, I spent a beautiful day with nine strong women and two guides at a retreat Fall Brook Stable focused on understanding ourselves more deeply, honoring the gifts we bring into the world, and noticing the quiet ways we sometimes hold ourselves back.

I arrived without my camera (though I was tempted). I wanted to be fully present.

And I was.

But I still found myself seeing in photographs.

Winston, (the dog) greeting each person as they arrived. The way he checked in on the room, then came back and curled himself in front of his person as if he were quietly guarding her.

The donkey and horse in the field, lifting their heads and looking toward us with curiosity.

This is what I notice.

So for those who are new here, or for those who want a deeper look, I thought I would re-introduce myself.

I am a VISUAL STORYTELLER of animals and the people who love them. I create images that honor connection — the love, trust, humor, comfort, and quiet devotion shared from one soul to another.

"Capturing love from one soul to another” was the phrase that cohort Sandy so nicely came up with. It feels so true to the heart of my work.

I love beautiful photographs.

But what I love most is capturing what is real: the bond between animals and the people they love.

If there is an animal in your life whose love has shaped you or seen you through a season of life, I would be honored to help you preserve that bond. Reach out and let's chat.

Rescue does not belong to one person or one organization.

It takes volunteers, fosters, transport, food, medical care, training, supplies, staff, and community members willing to show up in small ways.

That is why events like Pawsitively Strathmore matter.

Today, the neighborhood is coming together to support local animal welfare efforts, collect supplies for shelters, offer pet adoption opportunities, and celebrate the animals who share our lives.

I’ll be there offering quick dog portraits for a $20 donation.

Black dogs / overlooked dogs

Some dogs wait because they are older.
Some wait because they are shy.
Some wait because people make assumptions about their breed.

And some wait because they are black dogs.

I have always felt drawn to black dogs. They are so often overlooked, and sometimes people make unfair assumptions before they ever know them.

But when you really see them, they are no less soft, no less joyful, and no less worthy of being chosen.

This Saturday, I’ll be at Pawsitively Strathmore photographing dogs in support of local animal welfare efforts.

A photograph cannot do the whole work of rescue.

It cannot train a dog, heal an injury, pay a medical bill, or create a foster home.

But sometimes, a photograph helps someone pause.

It can show the softness in a dog’s eyes.
The silly tilt of their head.
The hope still living there.
The personality that may not come through in a kennel or a quick glance online.

I still remember the first time someone told me that a dog had been adopted because of my images and the story I shared in a blog. It was such a beautiful mix of pride, gratitude, and awe. That dog was Lisa, who had been at the shelter for over a year. despite her sweet demeanor- she had a skin condition that required a lot of attention.

Something I created helped someone see that dog more clearly.

That is why this work matters to me.

This Saturday, I’ll be photographing dogs at **Pawsitively Strathmore** from **noon to 4 PM**.

Portraits are available for a **$20 donation**, collected by the community organization hosting the event. Each donation includes one social-media-sized image of your choosing from a small gallery delivered within a week of the event. Additional images will be available for purchase for those who wish.

This is a community event with food trucks, local vendors and artisans, opportunities for pet adoption, and ways to support organizations doing important work for animals in Central New York.

They will also be collecting gently used pet supplies for local shelters, including beds, collars, leashes, bowls, blankets, towels, and linens.

Not everyone can adopt.
Not everyone can foster.
Not everyone can give in large ways.

But small actions matter.

I hope to see you and your dog there.
