Roadtrip 2026 | Day 5

My favorite day on this trip!

Astoria, OR -> Gold Beach, OR. Z
309 miles, over 6 hours of driving.

Highlight was absolutely Cannon beach at sunrise. I would have loved seeing sunset, but coming early to an almost empty beach?! So beautiful. And the sun leaking out to highlight haystack rock was a moment I’ll treasure, always.

We also visited Thors well, Blue Heron French creamery, and if course Tllamook creamery! I had to try the butter dipped cone. I actually loved it!

We hiked to the Heceta Head Lighthouse. I found my dream house with an amazing view!

We continued to drive through amazing small towns in the Oregon coast throughout the 101.
Ended in a quaint little town called Gold Beach. Had an amazing dinner, watched the sunset from our hotel!

I honestly can’t wait to come back to the this area!

Day 4 of our Pacific Northwest Roadtrip was a quick drive from Quilcene, WA-> Astoria, OR.

Just touristy things in Port Angeles, and of course, Forks! (Which was crazy busy!) and visiting Ruby Beach which made me feel a bit claustrophobic!

We ended the day making it to Astoria, Oregon and had to see the Goonies house! Had some pizza, beers with a great view on the Bay from our hotel.

Day 3

Eugene , OR -> Quilcene, WA

Approximately 293

We got to see a few covered bridges and stopped at the Crawfordsville bridge after passing through Brownsville (where Stand By Me was filmed).
Mostly a driving further north day, but we decided to venture on another waterfall hike! This was a wonderful hike and the waterfalls did not disappoint. I might have a new obsession.
We stayed in a cute little Inn in Quilcene, WA. Enjoyed great sandwiches from a place up the road. (Gear Head Deli)

Definitely a great day!

Day 2 of our roadtrip.

Left Yreka, CA and arrived on Grants Pass. We had lunch by the Rogue River and rode one of the Hellgate Jet boats and had the most amazing time! (Thanks Suzanne White )
We then arrived in Eugene and ready for some food and sleep! We walked from our hotel on a pedestrian bridge over the Willamette River to ColdFire Public house.

Food and beverages were great!

Highlight was the Eagles and Ostrich nests along the River! Such a fun day!

We’ve had a tradition of going on a particular type of Roadtrip the last 4 years.

We pick a destination (it can be adjusted if needed) and travel to that point without plans or accommodations booked.

Myself being a bit of a control freak it can be a bit scary. But we have had a lot of fun doing this.
I thought I would share some pictures from highlights of each day the next week.

Day 1. From our home in CA, we drove almost 8 hours, 536 miles and stayed in Yreka, CA.

Highlight was a little waterfall hike to Hedge Creek Falls in Dunsmuir, CA. Just happened to see a sign and it was such an easy little hike to see such a pretty waterfall.
