She wanted a tintype, but I wanted to make sure it never left her side. Pocket-sized heirloom for the birthday girl.

I never get tired of seeing the grand reveal of the tintype process.
When it goes into the fix bath, watching the image transition from a milky negative to a crisp positive is magic...

Thank you for the chemicals.

One self-portrait is already hard. Two on the same spot is a pain.
When it finally came time to take the guillotine to the plates, I was really reconsidering my choices! It’s a "point of no return" moment for an expensive ,time consuming experiment.
But I think it was worth it—the final woven piece looks awesome, especially the way the light catches the texture. I
I wish the eyes ended up on an upper weave though.
What do you think? Was the risk worth the reward?

for the chemicals.

4 exposures. 1 plate. No Photoshop.
4x10 wet plate collodion process, a photography technique from the 1850s. Every glitch you see is chemical...

Thanks Brian for the chemical.
