I was experimenting with long exposure at the time, and wanted to see how much it would blur or even make invisible things in the background. It did so well enough, I think, and then I did even more manipulation in post production. They were taken at the Forest Grove Concourse in 2025.

These are detail shots of tail lights on various cars. What I liked about these shots were the bright red of the tail lights contrasted or complemented with the paint of the vehicles. They were taken at the Forest Grove Concourse in 2024 with my (then) new 70mm - 200mm lens.

These are detail shots of headlights on various cars, which I'm not confident I can name correctly, so I'm not going to try. I'm not sure if all the cars are red because of a statistical bias at the car show or something else. They were taken at the Forest Grove Concourse in 2024 with my (then) new 70mm - 200mm lens.

One Christmas season I was out photographing Christmas lights. It was late, cold, and then my zoom lens broke. I couldn't adjust its focus or focal length. Whatever plan I had for the evening went out the window so I decided to mess around with long exposure and movement. These are some of the results.

Stairs are another one of those things that naturally make good photographs. They not only have a practical purpose, but they mean something, promise to lead you somewhere. Visually they can make attractive lines without any special effort. These stairs are on the side of a warehouse, the one taken from a reflection in a shallow puddle.

Doors are, for some reason I don't understand, an attractive photo opportunity. Something I find amusing about doors is that they are a thing in a frame, being framed in the lens, to later be put in a frame. These doors are from a residential home, a warehouse, and a synagogue.

Continuing with the theme of abandoned places. Here is a street in downtown Salem near the capitol building on a holiday, what used to be part of the commercial waterfront in Astoria, and the remains of a ship wreck near Astoria. I love the haunted feeling I have when looking at these images. They call to mind scenes from Terminator and Logan's Run.

When I visited Seattle in June it gave me its best Northwest weather. The morning and early afternoon were overcast and rainy, then the clouds broke and it was beautifully clear and sunny. You can see the transition here. The foggy picture of Seattle was taken at 8 or 9 in the morning. The clear photo with those great clouds was taken at 3 or 4 in the afternoon.
