Getting ready to see Big Boy today...

No. 4014 – the world’s only operational Big Boy – was originally delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941 to support the war effort. After a multi-year restoration project was completed in 2019 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion, No. 4014 is t...

I65 from just south of Louisville through Indianapolis and the rest of the route to Elkhart sucks. Worse than the roads in Canada and Alaska two years ago! Never had this happen before.

I managed to snag the best site in the Mammoth Cave campground for solar exposure! Beautiful campground and park, but the sites aren't always level. At least I haven't seen any that are level. But they're not that far off either. No services at the campsites here (but there is a dump station and potable water available at the camp store). Generators can be used between 10am - 8pm. Fortunately I was able to squeak by without digging mine out but it was close. Tuesday night and half of Wednesday was cloudy and rainy so not much solar. The clouds parted yesterday afternoon allowing me enough solar go get to about 90% charge on the batteries. And today is severe clear!

The RV is out of storage and back home. Not uneventfully though. Made a sharp turn around a corner and apparently the wiring harness got stuck somewhere in the truck bed and pulled some wires loose in the RV which caused the trailer brakes to lock up. We're only 4 miles from home (fortunately). I ended up disconnecting the wiring harness and then shutting down the RV power to unlock the brakes and get it home. Now we have two days to fix the problem and load the RV for our Sunday morning departure. First stop: Mammoth Cave National Park!

Have I ever mentioned that I hate I65? Especially around Birmingham, AL? If I would have left Cullman at 6am, I might have missed the traffic mess. But now it looks like I'll wait for a couple more hours here at the campground for the traffic to clear before I hit the road headed home.

Maybe if I leave here between 9-930am, it'll put me in Birmingham around 10-1030am so maybe the rush hour foolishness will be over by then.

Here's to wishful thinking...

What are you doing on a lazy Saturday afternoon? I'm preparing the RV for a quick road trip to get the frame fixed where the stabilizer jack mounts to the frame. Already filled up the truck with about $225 worth of diesel. Also made reservations at the rather expensive city RV park in Cullman, AL; but it is a really nice park for a city park.

Also in my "spare" time I'm trying to upgrade my old iMac computer with the latest MacOS software (which isn't officially supported on these older machines) but it is doable with enough time and the correct boot loader software. Yea!
