Looking back at this photograph from 2015 and I notice the dish brush on the sink.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I notice the towel hanging on the faucet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The sponge and dish soap is left out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In today’s world I would be tempted to take those out using a removal tool in my editing software.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When did real life become undesirable?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When did imperfections become “fixable”?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I LONG for real. I LONG for raw.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This was a mom who took some space to explore herself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After I left she probably made dinner for her two children in that kitchen and then washed the dishes with those very tools.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For a second, she got to mix her two worlds.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is art.

WHAT AI DOESN’T KNOW

The anticipatory flush of a hesitant first kiss. How the belly rushes and the skin tingles and the pulse upticks.
Apricity and zephyr.
The smell of existing-garbage and rain, wet dog and honeysuckle, gas and sweat and mud.
The taste of strawberries and chocolate, ocean-lick and lemon zest and the crook of a lover’s neck.
The collective joy of singing and dancing.
Instinct and intuition.
The heart-bruise of feeling.
The body-swell of want.

Bo***ir is about stripping down to bare bones.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, not in the way one might think.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the permission to let someone else see you in the most vulnerable and raw light. It’s cracking wide open and letting the hard seep in so that the you can discover and fill in the holes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bo***ir is pushing away the “one day’s” and “what-if’s” and embracing the right now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s letting the skin that holds you fall apart.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s grieving who you once were, while saying hello to who you are.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is...you are...encompassing.

We have no female equivalent
to the term ‘renaissance man’
because a woman who excels
at many talents, in many areas,
is so typical we simply call her
a woman.

Back from a week long vacation and thrust into the real world.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If coming back to work looks like this, I’m okay with it.

IT LOOKS GOOD ON YOU
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The way you wear your body just how you want to.
The way you shake off their ultimatums like a dog coming in from the rain.
A liberated good girl boldly scratching what’s plagued you.
An unfettered creature unabashedly digging up her flowers, rolling in the mud.
It was always there, wasn’t it?
That joy. That abandon.
That well of desire you decided to jump into.
That spice of life you finally licked from your lips.

I hope when you come home
to yourself there are flowers lining
the front porch

that were left by all the
women you were before
