A bit late to the party but I thought this was a cute viral trend. You get four editions: designed, photographer, mom, and just because I actually really love horror movies—that too!

This photo popped up the other day. It might not seem like a very significant photo to some, but to me it holds an entire story. That photo is how I see myself. Wearing a silly knit koala hat, holding my telephoto lens, on a boat enjoying the breeze on an adventure travel trip. (Boats are my happy place.)

I was just a couple months pregnant at the time and had no idea how much my life would change. Shortly after giving birth (and if I think about it, probably while pregnant) I dealt with significant postpartum depression and anxiety. The things I liked to do I didn’t want to do anymore (photography), traveling beyond my immediate area was overwhelming, leave solid land—are you kidding? No need for a silly hat, either.

I look at this photo and think “girl, you don’t even know”. No, she didn’t know. I’m glad she didn’t know. And honestly—I’m also glad to have gone through it. I healed parts of me that I didn’t know needed healing. I still am.

And now? I share that koala hat with my little girl. I go on nature walks with her and show her my photos. I daydream about taking her on the boat I used to work on (should get that scheduled!) Life has changed significantly—and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

So yeah, this one little photo? It says a LOT.

I’ve had the joy of working with a new yoga studio brand, Samskara Yoga. Kasey, the owner, threw “spaghetti at the wall” in a Google Doc including ideas for brand colors, fonts, logos, messaging, and more. I thoroughly enjoyed distilling it down into a cohesive brand feel. I’ll be sharing logo, colors, etc. soon, but wanted to start at the beginning (a very good place to start) with the mood board!
