When I went to college my dream was to be a fashion photographer and/or an artistic portraiture photographer. Inspiration rattled around my brain in so many forms. The magazines W, US weekly, Vogue, and more. Images in albums for the musicians I loved. Art for movies, the behind the scenes & promotional material. Even more so, I found inspiration from other photographers; Patrick Demarchelier, Mark Steigler, Joyce Tenneson, David LaChappelle, Annie Leibowitz, Sally Mann… so many amazing artists that I devoured in every spare moment. Sitting on the floor of Barnes & Noble in front of the photography shelves….absorbing the images from every book that struck my heart. 🎞️
I’d grab a model, a bag of clothes and props and go!!📷 Slowly I learned to be a bit more organized & plan for a shoot. Although my favorite is still to take a vague idea & let it unfold in front of my lens.
So I look back into my archives and share this classic editorial style image. The model Zach was new to print work, but had just left college athletics & was seeing what was next. He was a natural & we did this shoot around downtown Greer. Like much in life, things shifted & don’t know if this became more for him. I digress ….
Lately I find myself in artistic limbo… things I love to shoot, things I’d like to shoot …. Have I pigeoned holed myself with the abandoned work? So many concepts floating around my head. I know I want to work with models again more, but my post production time is limited. Working to find a better balance & take back more time for my art.
It you made it this far, thank you for listening to me 🖤
