🐾We’re back! Bark in the Park is this Saturday!🐾

Join us at Blueberry Fields Dog Park in Sylvania from 9am-12pm as we support the Toledo Humane Society. This fundraiser is dog friendly and includes dogs up for adoption through the Humane Society, dog activities, a raffle and a vendor village full of pet-friendly local businesses.

This year we are doing things slightly different. We are building our most elaborate portable studio set in a beach themed style. We are also going to set up a system where we can text your photo right to your phone on sight!

Your photo experience will be about 5min including taking a few pictures and then transferring data to be sent to you. The set will accommodate approximately 3 (Dogs or people or both).

We will also be giving out treat bags with salmon snacks for your dogs and stickers and our info. These bags are free and no purchase is necessary to take one so PLEASE stop by even if you left your dog at home.

🩷 Meet Tundra. At 7 years old, this gentle German Shepherd was surrendered to a vet to be euthanized because she was no longer "useful" for breeding.

Tundra is a quiet, soulful girl who is learning what it means to be a family dog. She likely spent most of her life in a crate, and while she still finds comfort there, she’s discovering that the world is much bigger (and better!) than four wire walls.

✔️Sweet, soft kisses once she knows you.
✔️Total pro on a leash & in the car.
✔️Quiet as a mouse
✔️House trained and dog-friendly.

She needs a patient home that will help her build confidence and show her that her best years are right now.

How ADORABLE is this picture of Kat?! 💜
Huge thank‑you to our friends at Trumbull Photography, LLC because capturing Kat is a sport. You get .2 seconds to snap a decent photo before she zooms off again, and Rebecca and her team nailed it. 📸✨

Kat is truly the sweetest little Blue Heeler/Spitz mix, born around September 20th, 2025, and weighing in at a petite 15 pounds and she is fully grown. She’s great with dogs, cats, and kids, and she brings sunshine and silliness everywhere she goes.

🐾 What Kat Needs
- A dog friend close to her size as she thrives with a buddy who can match her playful, gentle energy
- A physically fenced‑in yard. This girl LOVES to run, explore, and do her happy zoomies safely
- A family who appreciates a smart, social, wiggly little shadow who wants to be part of everything

🐭✨ MOUSE: THE MOST OVERLOOKED PERFECT BOY

Another amazing picture from Trumbull Photography, LLC 😍

How is it our sweet little survivor is still looking for a forever will be one of life’s great mysteries.

Mouse came to us after someone starved him, and he fought his way back with the biggest heart and the softest spirit. Now he’s healthy, vetted, thriving and somehow still waiting for his person.

💛 Who Mouse Is
- 🎂 Born November 14, 2025
- 🐾 ~30 lbs of zoomies, cuddles, and pure joy
- 🚽 Potty trained
- 💤 Crate trained
- 🎓 Knows basic commands

- 🤝 Thrives with another dog friend. He truly blossoms with a buddy

💚 JIGS - HOW DO WE STILL HAVE HIM?!

Rebecca at Trumbull Photography, LLC worked absolute magic with this boy. She caught every wrinkle, every goofy expression, every “I’m a big baby disguised as a tank” moment. If personality could ooze out of a photo, this one would be dripping.

And yet…
He is STILL the last of his litter waiting for a home.
We genuinely do not understand how.

🐾 Who Jigs Is
- Born January 12th - now a big, wiggly, lovable puppy
- Currently 40+ pounds of love
- Fully potty trained
- Crate trained
- Walks beautifully on a leash
- Amazing with other dogs
- Wonderful with kids
- Has seen cats at events - no one‑on‑one time, but he’s respectful, observant, and we believe he’d take direction well
- Big, goofy, smart, social, and SO ready to be someone’s best friend

Jigs is the kind of dog who makes strangers smile, who wiggles his whole body when he’s happy, and who melts into you like he’s made of warm dough.

🏡 What Jigs Needs
- A family who wants a playful, affectionate, companion
- A home that appreciates a dog who is equal parts goofball and gentle soul
- Someone who sees the magic in the last pup standing
- A physically fenced in yard

He’s watched his mom get adopted.
He’s watched all his siblings leave.

🐕 HAPPY NATIONAL RESCUE DOG DAY 🐕

Lucas County Canine Care & Control has a complicated situation. They are run by governmental funds and have specific guidelines and protocols that must be followed. They did not necessarily get created out of a passionate person’s dream of helping displaced animals. They have to exist… they don’t choose to exist. Stray dogs HAVE to have somewhere to go. As a shelter, LC4 is the first line in many really tough cases of cruelty, aggression and neglect. They have to deal with a lot of really ugly parts of rescue on a daily basis and they are not always given autonomy to make decisions on a case by case basis.

Does any of this mean they do not deserve support or that their dogs do not deserve to be considered when adopting? Absolutely not. There are many people involved as staff and volunteers who are deeply invested in bettering the lives of these shelter dogs.

BUT. There is never enough. The problem of homeless dogs is so big that none of us will ever have enough resources to make a dent. Many rescue organizations are exposed to criticism of the way they do… pretty much everything. How deeply they investigate potential adopters, how much enrichment the dogs get, whether they do euthanasia for behavior or medical or space, what breeds they work with or don’t, how they run their fundraisers, what their logo looks like… it gets petty sometimes… and more than that… it gets destructive.

We WISH every dog could be given every single thing they need in the exact way they need it. But we KNOW the best we can hope for is that some dogs get something positive. And maybe… if enough people just do SOMETHING decent… not something perfect… just something… then maybe… a few of them might actually find happily ever after.

These five dogs were absolutely lovely! They all were ecstatic to be out of the shelter doing things and meeting people. We are flabbergasted that so many get overlooked just because of their appearance, age, or perceived personality. You never know what beautiful soulmate might be living behind those eyes.

🐕 HAPPY NATIONAL RESCUE DOG DAY* 🐕

Toledos PET Bull Project might have had a head start on the cuteness with the tiny puppies… but the older dogs did not disappoint. Not only are they stunning, most of the PET Bull foster pups go through training classes and work on basic manners in their foster homes. Helping their dogs be their most adoptable selves is something they are very passionate about. We’re not saying there is perfection here, EVERY dog is a commitment that involves hard work. Every dog has their strengths and weaknesses. The best owners will embrace their dog right where they are at and assist them as they grow.

The dog diversity in this group from Planned Pethood, Inc. is WILD. It reminds us how much we enjoy seeing the different personalities and instincts of different breeds. We are huge advocates for the idea that not every home is right for every dog. We encourage breed understanding in owners and the willingness to embrace that every dog is an individual being. It is wonderful to see the efforts Planned Pethood makes to find the right home for each dog.
