On today’s rendition of “the real reason why we are all here,” I present to you Mary Catherine & Vincent’s church ceremony.

Honestly, I love a church ceremony, probably because I am a big big lover of multi-location wedding days! Having that physical movement from location to location adds so much to the day, and I love how that translates through the gallery.

I think part of it is that every time you leave somewhere, it sinks in a little more that this is actually happening. The drive to the church feels completely different from the drive to the reception, even though you’re with the same people and it’s only been about an hour. BUT NOW you’re married, on a bus with your entire wedding party celebrating you, and taking it all in with the person you just married!

Anywayyyy, Mary Catherine & Vincent are married and we have a reception to get to! If your wedding day involves loading everyone onto a bus and taking the celebration all over town, please know I am very much your photographer.

Words like this make me feel so proud of what I’ve built and what I get to create for my couples. Almost ten years into this business and it still means so much knowing someone wants ME there to photograph their wedding and be part of those memories.

Kaylei had been following along for years before getting engaged, and when she and Austin started planning, they picked a date knowing I could be there. What she might not have known is that I’d been dreaming of photographing a wedding in Colorado since I started my business.

So while I was her dream photographer, turns out she was my dream bride. You made my Colorado wedding dreams come true, Kaylei 🫶🏻

Why do I love photographing rehearsal dinners so much? Simply because there is no mental “shot list” that I’m running throughout the event. Your rehearsal dinner is about the experience not only for you, but also for your guests.

So my job is purely “running on vibes” as I follow the couple around and catch the little hugs and laughs that happen in between all the conversations.

Becoming a mom changed how I photograph wedding days more than I expected. I spend so much of my life trying to soak up the little moments with my own kids and now when I watch a couple’s parents doing the same thing, I get it in a way I didn’t before.

Their kid is grown, but that’s still their baby 🥹

Mine are still little, so I haven’t been on that side of it yet. But I can imagine being so happy for your child and still wanting to hold on to every little minute.

I thought about that a lot watching Mary Catherine with her parents that morning. I’ve always paid attention to these moments, but now I stay with them a little longer.

These aren’t just the couple’s memories that I’m documenting, these are also their parents’ memories. And that liiiiiitle perspective change has made a world of a difference in the meaning of these photos and how I want to document these moments.

Kessler has been telling me for YEARS that I was going to photograph her wedding someday.

Not asking. Telling me. And I’ve been cautiously keeping an eye on her IG stories any and every time she was on a trip with anticipation for Thomas to propose.

I photographed her sister Katelan’s wedding back in 2023, then their family friend Stephie’s wedding, then Kessler’s friend Peyton’s wedding last year, and now finally Kessler!

So at this point, photographing anyone connected to this crew never really feels like walking into a room of strangers anymore 🫶🏻 There’s always someone I already know, someone I’ve photographed before, or someone I’ve somehow heard about throughout the years of these weddings!

And now Kessler FINALLY gets to be the one on the other side of the camera after years of telling me she would be.

I get to photograph a lot of people I know and love, and every time someone trusts me with those memories, it means more to me. If I know you, your family, and/or your friends outside of my business and you choose to have me photograph your wedding day, just know that is genuinely one of the greatest compliments you could ever give me.

Getting to give back what I love so much to the people who hold a personal spot in my heart is something I will never take for granted.

I have been wanting to photograph at Hotel Drover for SO long and getting to photograph Mary Catherine + Vince’s rehearsal dinner finally gave me the opportunity to check it off my bucket list.

Sb and Co brought this whole vision to life and absolutely killed it, as she always does. She managed to sprinkle in just the right amount of western without it feeling overly “yeehaw,” while still keeping everything elevated, classic and chic.

I will forever be a huge advocate for having your rehearsal dinner photographed because there is just something so special about the night before the wedding. Everyone is excited, people are catching up, and you actually get to spend time with the people who traveled to celebrate you. Your wedding day moves SO quickly, and those one on one connections aren’t always possible. Having those moments documented adds an entirely different layer to your final gallery and I love that you get to look back and see all the little interactions, conversations and memories that made the entire weekend yours.

Anywayyyyy, more weekends like this one, PLEASE. And someone get me back to Hotel Drover for a full wedding day because I am not done with this place 🤠

I think the ceremony gets overlooked a little when we talk about wedding photography, which is kind of wild considering it is quite literally the entire reason there is a wedding day in the first place.

It is also one of the only parts of the day where I really have no idea what I am going to get. I know where the couple will be, obviously, but everything happening around them is completely unscripted. I am watching the room just as much as I am watching the two people getting married because there is always something happening that they cannot see from where they are standing.

And I LOVE that part of it.

You get to experience your ceremony once from your own perspective, and then you get the photos back and realize there was a whole other version of it happening around you at the same time.

That is what I want to give people. Not just proof that the ceremony happened, but a way to go back and see more of it than they were able to the first time.

Getting ready is the only part of the wedding day where nobody is watching yet, or so you think 👀

I get asked for “documentary” constantly and TRULY, I love photographing a wedding day with a documentary approach more than anything! Buttttttt the couples who actually get those photos aren’t the ones asking me to “make it feel candid”. They’re the ones who forgot I was there. Maggie didn’t plan a single one of these moments. She just let the morning happen and I kept up.

The pajama photo on the bed? We were literally just waiting on everyone to get there. Her sister buckling her shoes was not a “moment,” it was her sister buckling her shoes. The girls gathered around after she was fully dressed and honestly I could have put my camera down and they would have reacted the exact same way. Her dad took one look at her and had to laugh so he didn’t cry, while her mom was off to the side with her phone up getting her own version (as she should).

You can’t put any of that on a shot list (trust me, couples have tried) 🙃 The only thing you can actually control is being present with your people and not treating the morning like a to-do list. The photos come from that, not the other way around.
