City Hall Hosts "Made In Torrington" Exhibit, Showcasing Local Industry and Artistry

Torrington, CT, [October 9, 2024] – Following a successful exhibit at Five Points Annex earlier this year, a curated selection from the original 65 works of local photographer Katina Hungerford are showcased at City Hall in the auditorium throughout October and November. This continuation of the “Made In Torrington” exhibit is curated and overseen by William Haygood, a key figure in Torrington's vibrant arts community, a member of Torrington's Arts and Culture Commission, Five Points Arts Facilities Manager, and art curator for City Hall.

"Made In Torrington" is a black-and-white, documentary-style photo exhibit dedicated to the workers, artisans, and everyday local heroes who make the Northwest corner of Connecticut an extraordinary haven of hard work, inspiration, and innovation. This project captures Torrington's hardworking spirit, bridging labor and artistry through striking portraits. Featured in the exhibit are craftsmen and women at work across various iconic Torrington locations, including O&G Industries at the new high school construction site, RBC Bearings, Iffland Lumber, The Nutmeg Conservatory for The Arts, WAPJ Radio Station, City Hall, Colonial Bronze, Liberty Art and Framing, Center Congregational Church, and The Venetian Restaurant. Each image reflects the pride and dedication of Torrington’s people, often working behind the scenes to keep the city thriving.

Several pieces from the collection will also be on display at local venues during the exhibit’s run. Upon the completion of the exhibit series, the full body of work will be donated to the Torrington Historical Society, ensuring this powerful visual documentation of Torrington’s industrious spirit is preserved for future generations.

The exhibit is open to the public in the City Hall Auditorium during normal hours when meetings are not in session.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to extend a massive thank you to each and every one of you who braved the freezing cold to attend my exhibit on such a unique evening that coincided with Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday. Your willingness to take time out of your evening, amid such chilly conditions and on a day filled with personal and communal significance, means the world to me.

The atmosphere was electric, and I am overwhelmed by the support and warmth that filled the room. Meeting so many incredible people, engaging in fascinating conversations, and witnessing the community come together in this way, surrounded by my work from the last nine months, was truly heartwarming.

A special thank you to Mayor Carbone and Richard Lopez for their support throughout my photo project journey and tonight — it was an honor to have you there sharing our mutual love for all things Torrington. Fellow artists, you are an amazing community of creative and awesome people and I am so thankful to you for your support. All my friends, family and my work colleagues that came out to support me - meant the world to me. ❤️ The folks who allowed me to photograph them and then came out to show their support - what a Valentine’s Day gift that was for me - thank you beyond words. Sharing this vision with you has been a deeply fulfilling experience.

I am wholeheartedly grateful for your support, your participation since last May, your enthusiasm, and your willingness to share in the celebration of our community's pride. Let's continue to uplift and celebrate all the great things right here in Torrington together. Thank you once again for an unforgettable evening!

Yours, Torrington
