There is something so beautiful about walking into a home that’s learning its new rhythm.

A toddler who’s not quite sure what to make of his new baby sister. Two dogs making sure they’re included. Tiny toes. Milk-drunk naps. Parents who are exhausted, completely in love, and somehow making it all work.

Lifestyle newborn sessions aren’t about perfect poses or spotless homes. They’re about preserving this season exactly as it is—the beautiful chaos, the quiet moments, and all the little details that will be different before you know it.

One of my favorite mini sessions of the entire year is returning to the stunning flower fields at NW CT's Premier UPick Flower Farm in Litchfield!

Some families smile for a photo.

Some families carry entire lifetimes of love and loss into the frame.

This beautiful family has endured the unimaginable—the loss of a son, a brother, a father. The kind of grief that changes you forever. And yet here they are, still showing up for one another, still gathering, still loving, still making room for joy alongside the sadness.

As I listened to their story, I found myself feeling deeply connected to them. His daughters are teenagers now. His mom’s name was Darlene—my mom’s name too. Different stories, same understanding: when you lose someone you love, they never really leave the family. They show up in memories, in mannerisms, in laughter, and in the people who carry their love forward.

These photos aren’t just about who’s standing here.

They’re also about who’s missing.

And how deeply they are still loved. ❤️

Today I had the chance to photograph my cousin Rick Spencer and his singing partner Dawn at the Connecticut Sea Music Festival in Essex.

There were a few songs they performed that seemed to be known by everyone in the audience except me. As soon as the first notes started, people joined in. Voices from every corner of the tent came together, and for a few minutes, strangers weren’t strangers anymore.

It reminded me of something I’ve always known but don’t think about often enough: music has a way of uniting people. It heals, comforts, celebrates, remembers, and connects us.

Watching Rick on that stage also brought me right back to my dad. Music was where he came alive. No matter what else was going on in his life, when he was singing or playing, he seemed lighter. Happier. More himself. It was one of the few places where I saw him completely at peace.

So today felt like more than just taking photos.

It felt like a reminder that music carries pieces of people with it. Long after the song ends.

And these two? They’re excellent. The way Rick and Dawn’s voices blend together is something special.
