The Hitchcock Effect, also known as the dolly zoom or vertigo effect, is a cinematic technique that creates a dramatic visual distortion by zooming in while moving the camera backward (or vice versa). This warps perspective, making the background appear to stretch or compress while keeping the subject the same size.

In drone cinematography, you can achieve this effect by either:
1. Manually flying backward while zooming in (if your drone has optical zoom, like the Mavic 3 Pro).
2. Flying forward while zooming out to create the opposite effect.
3. Simulating it in post-production by digitally scaling the footage while adjusting framing.

This effect adds suspense, drama, or a surreal feel to shots—perfect for emphasizing scale, height, or emotional intensity in your drone videos! 🚁🎥

Last Tuesday's tragic maritime accident in Baltimore, MD cost several lives and untold millions in property loss. The bridge is no more and the ship took heavy damage. My heart goes out to the victims of this tragedy.

To me, it's no surprise that the FAA imposed a TFR around the accident site and that the NTSB is launching their drone fleet to capture data and imagery to assess the scene and to use that data to provide valuable insight into reconstruction efforts. I mean, there's literally no better way to do it.

You can even use thermal cameras and other sensors to detect leaks and hazardous materials that may be coming from the ship.

Drones have so many different applications, they're just too many to count.

I'm glad to see they're are being applied this way by the NTSB for something good.

And....if you're a drone pilot in Baltimore. Don't be a knucklehead, keep your drone away from the TFR. Don't be that guy.

Not to long ago, I was on my way home from Livermore and I got stuck in traffic. I thought to myself….hmm…so yeah I pulled over. I happened to have my trusty drone with me and I put it up.
