The only thing I can compare swimming with a humpback calf to is being around a golden retriever puppy. There’s this incredible curiosity and playfulness to them.

But these encounters can never be taken lightly. We observe from a distance and give the mother and calf their space. If either one approaches us, we slowly swim away to maintain a safe and respectful distance. We never chase or try to force an interaction, the whales are always in control of the encounter.

It takes patience, slow movements, and respect for the mother and her calf. Some calves are shy and stay close to mom, while others are incredibly curious and playful.

They have the whole world in front of them, and the ocean is their playground. Getting to quietly witness that curiosity, while respecting their space, is one of the most intimate and exciting wildlife experiences I’ve ever had.

38 years young today! 🎂🌊

Every year on my birthday, I like to look back and share some of my favorite photos I’ve taken over the last 10 years.

What a ride it’s been. From coming face-to-face with great white sharks to swimming alongside massive humpback whales, the ocean has given me some of the most unforgettable moments of my life.

The ocean is the place that completes me. It’s where I feel the most alive, and being able to capture these moments and share them with all of you makes it even more special.

So on my birthday, it only feels right to share some of my favorite images with the people who have supported me over the years.

Thank you for following along, supporting my photography, sharing my work, and allowing me to keep doing something I truly love.

Here’s to 38 and many more adventures in the ocean. 🌊🦈 🐋

Happy Shark Week! 🦈

Sharks have been keeping our oceans healthy for more than 400 million years. As apex predators, they help maintain balanced marine ecosystems, and without them, the entire food web can be affected.

While Shark Week has introduced millions of people to these incredible animals, it’s important to remember that not every documentary tells the whole story. Some prioritize entertainment over education, which can reinforce fear instead of understanding.

If you’re watching this week, look for films and creators that highlight the science, conservation, and true behavior of sharks. The more people understand them, the more likely they are to protect them.
