Unpopular opinion: choosing a location is one of the LAST things we should do when planning your senior session.
Because a beautiful location can give you beautiful pictures.
But beautiful pictures arenât enough.
I want to create photographs that could only belong to you.
Before Iâm thinking about fields or city streets, flowers or architecture, Iâm thinking about the person Iâm photographing.
What do you love?
What do you wear when you feel most like yourself?
Are you quiet and introspective? Bold and expressive? A little bit of both?
What matters to you right now?
Who - or what - belongs in your story?
Thatâs where we start.
Then we build everything else around it.
The wardrobe.
The locations.
The styling.
The details.
The experience itself.
And yes, sometimes that means weâre barefoot on a dock.
Sometimes weâre standing in the middle of a field.
Sometimes the dog comes along.
Sometimes thereâs a horse. đ
None of those things are there because they make a cute Pinterest board.
Theyâre there because they mean something to the person Iâm photographing.
Thatâs the difference between having senior pictures taken and creating a senior portrait experience that actually feels like yours.
Years from now, I donât just want you to look at these photographs and remember what you looked like at 17 or 18.
I want you to remember who you were.
The things you loved.
The confidence you were growing into.
The pieces of your life that mattered.
The person you were becoming.
Because the goal was never to create a gallery that could have been photographed for anyone.
The goal is to create one that couldnât possibly belong to anyone else.
đ¤ Save this for when youâre planning senior portraits â especially if youâre tempted to start by Googling âbest senior photo locations near me.â
And if youâre looking for someone to simply meet you at a pretty location and take pretty pictures, I may not be your photographer.
But if you want an experience designed around who you actually are when the camera isnât pointing at you?
We should talk. Itâs what I do.
