It is time.
October marks my 15 year mark as a photographer. I started out with a guitar and sold it to be able to purchase a camera. I started with a point and shoot and was able to get my hands on a DSLR. What started as a hobby turned into this business I have poured myself into so long...what feels like all of my adult life so far.
I have watched babies grow, families flourish, weddings, watched women transform themselves, watched those same babies graduate high-school, milestones in businesses, captured all the memories you could think of. Ive listened to women in their most vulnerable states who were filled with shame around their own bodies and listened to their struggles with self ans motherhood. I've watched those same women blossom into confident women who feel seen and understood in their struggles and validated in their feelings.
I've been so blessed to make so many memories with all of you. To have been so lucky that out of all the people in this world you could have shared those memories with-you choose me.
Some of you have chosen me time and time again. Through the years, through your milestones of life. You have been patient with me and given me space through the ups and downs of my life as well as my business. You have turned into genuine friends that I cherish. I honestly can say I cherish you all that I have worked with and the memories and laughs we have had.
I have been feeling a pull for awhile now. That it is time for my to close this chapter and see where life goes. I will forever love photography- but I feel it is time for me to close that chapter.
I am teary as I write this- my whole adult life has been as a photographer. A big part of my identity is held with that Canon camera and honestly I am not sure who I am if Im not behind the lens with you guys. But I also know that not everything lasts forever and as we grow as beings sometimes that requires change even if its uncomfortable and scary. I do not know where life will go or what God has in store for me.
I do know the last year of my life has been one of the hardest in my personal life with a lot of loss. I do know now more than ever that family and making memories is the most important thing for me. I do know that being present is most important to me. I do know that this world we live in is drowning us-and some of us feel that weight more than others. I do know that I feel peace when I think of closing my business down and being done brings me peace.
If it brings me peace-then I feel it is the right choice even if its a hard choice.
I do know that this will give me the opportunity somewhere to also add another 15 years (God willing) of something that brings me joy and memories the same as my time as photographer has.
I will never completely put my camera down or stop being creative. It is WHO I am in my soul-its just time to explore what else I am or who I may be without it.
I want to thank everyone for the many many years you've been with me. The friends I have made. The friends for life I have made. I have had so many people support me and Ive said it before....without you I wouldn't have made it this far. 15 years is a long time. I hope I get the chance to spend 15 more years with you...in other ways.
As of June I will no longer be taking any new sessions at ALL that weren't previously discussed. Any outstanding gift certificates from the last year will need to be used by December. If you have any questions please feel free to message me and we can discuss any concerns you may have.
I will of course still keep "my lifers" beside me. The ones who I have watched their children grow, or grown with in all aspects.
This chapter is closing. I pray the next one is just as beautiful and meaningful as this one has been.
