3,000 miles away. Different country. Different time zone.

The shoot happened anyway.

She needed portraits fast. I was already booked out of the country. Rescheduling either of us wasn't the move.

If you told me 18 years ago I'd be running a shoot from another continent via FaceTime, I would've laughed in your face. Then asked what FaceTime was.

So I directed the entire session remotely. Trusted photographer on my team behind the camera. Longtime MUA on glam. FaceTime open. Shared screen pulling images to my laptop in real time.

I called the lighting. I called the lens. I directed her posing. I asked for micro-adjustments when I saw them.

Everything but the shutter click.

This is what a real team makes possible. This is what 18 years of refining a process looks like.

The Editorial Experience doesn't require me in the room. It requires me at the helm.

18 years in. Still surprising myself.

A few weeks ago I introduced The Mission Makers, a portrait series I've been building to elevate the nonprofit founders reshaping their communities.

Today I'm sharing the first clip from Tami Wilder's interview.
Tami grew up in West London in a family of musicians, and when she moved to America she noticed something that stayed with her: creative kids without resources often end up in trouble, not because they lack talent, but because they lack somewhere to put it.

Sixteen years ago, she decided to build that place: Positive Impact International.

I photographed and interviewed Tami almost a year ago, and I've spent the time since then learning the videography craft to honor these interviews the way I wanted to. This is a passion project, one I built because I wanted to see nonprofit leaders photographed with the same care we usually reserve for corporate executives.

Tami grew up in West London in a musical family. Her dad was the lead singer of the 70s funk band Heatwave. Her mum wrote and sang with the band. Her grandfather helped launch The Beatles. Music was everywhere.

When the family moved to America, she started noticing the kids whose families didn't have what hers did. Not just money, but access. Mentors, activities, anywhere to put their creativity. Sixteen years ago, she decided to do something about it, and that decision became the organization she runs today.

I love this clip because it shows where her conviction actually came from. It wasn't a single moment. It was paying attention.

Your mission is only as loud as your presence.

I’ve spent 18 years behind the lens. A few years ago, I realized something that didn't sit well with me. I had become so focused on the business of photography that I’d forgotten to create for the sake of the art.

I missed that feeling I had as a 12-year-old. The one who picked up a disposable camera just because I loved capturing the people around me.

I’ve carried that realization for a while. This year, I decided it was time to reclaim that spark.

Sandra Madhere Studios Presents: The Mission Makers.

This series is a return to my roots. I’ve stepped away from the commercial brief to document four visionaries who have each spent over five years on the front lines of their nonprofits.

These are the leaders who are usually too busy for a portrait session. I sat down with them to capture their strength through editorial photography and real, unscripted interviews.

It’s high-end imagery with a very human "why."

Watch the reel below for a first look at the women moving our community forward. The full series is coming soon.

The Mission Makers:
Tami Wilder
Robin Mauck, BS, MEd, MBA
Deirdra Cox, CPC
Norma Zuniga-Cardoza, MPA, CNP

Sometimes the universe works in perfect timing.

When I added Atlanta to the locations that Sandra Madhere Studios serves, I never doubted I would be working with the guiding lights of the community. Deirdra Cox, CPC is one of them.

This incredible nonprofit leader was already planning to book a shoot with me when I invited her to be part of my new project, 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒓𝒔, a portrait series highlighting the change-makers who quietly shape our communities.

Her testimonial about the experience blew me away, and it feels like the perfect way to introduce this series. More to come.

I’m excited to share one of my favorite shoots from a little while back with Dr. Christa Springston, founder of HealthSprings Direct in Peachtree City, GA.

Dr. Springston is a board‑certified Internal Medicine physician who opened her Direct Primary Care practice so patients can get more time, real answers, and proactive care that looks at the whole person. When she asked me to tell that story in photos, we turned her office into a pop‑up studio with makeup, lights, and plenty of good vibes. We captured images that reflect her warmth, her expertise, and the supportive team behind her.

A few highlights from our day:
• Branding portraits that show how welcoming the practice truly is
• Team shots featuring Niki, the office administrator, and Erin Raser, PA‑C, the dedicated physician assistant, both looking great with pro makeup
• A family photo with her husband and their two boys
• Lots of genuine laughs and one very happy doctor

Here’s what Dr. Springston said after seeing her gallery:

“Sandra fully and completely captured the essence of my business and brand. I can’t wait to use these photos everywhere.”

If you’re near South Atlanta and want a doctor who treats you like family, check out HealthSprings Direct and tell Dr. Springston I sent you. You’ll be in great hands!

Happy Doctors’ Day 2025:

Today we honor the minds that heal, the hands that serve, and the hearts that never stop giving.

So grateful do what I do and having had the privilege of capturing the strength and humanity of so many incredible physicians—not just as professionals, but as leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

These portraits are more than just images—they’re tributes to resilience, purpose, and impact.

To every doctor: thank you for showing up, standing tall, and making a difference. 💙

Since 2004, the American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women, has addressed the awareness and clinical care gaps of women’s greatest health threat, cardiovascular
disease (CVD).

CVD continues to be the No. 1 killer of women — claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined.

Go Red for Women is dedicated to educating and empowering women to take action to protect themselves from the threat of CVD and helping all women reduce their risk by removing the barriers they face to better health and well-being.

Let’s celebrate 20 years of Go Red for Women | and donate to this great cause. (Link in bio)

I'm thrilled to partner with the American Heart Association - Georgia and their GO RED for Women campaign, to continue to bring awareness to cardiovascular disease the No. 1 killer of women. Especially, in metro Atlanta where 46% residents are being diagnosed with hypertension - the leading cause of cardiovascular disease and strokes.
