Michelle in blue has me rethinking my entire color palette. đź’™

I’m usually nowhere near team blue (although I do love a good denim-on-denim moment when I’m taking a break from green), but this sapphire shade paired so beautifully with her eyes. Add in the linen oatmeal jacket, and suddenly this business headshot feels polished, approachable and completely her.

And the location played a part, too. I love how a lifestyle setting can instantly soften a professional portrait and give it a little more personality.

There’s something so powerful about seeing the upgrade a business professional can achieve simply by giving their portraits the time, attention and styling they deserve. There is something about Sundays with your children.

The slower pace. The extra cuddles. The laughter that fills the room. The moments in between that you don’t think to photograph because you’re simply living them.

A little tenderness. A little chaos. A lot of love.
This is motherhood, exactly as it is and exactly as we want to remember it.

It’s that time of year… 7th grade, here we come! 📚

For the past ten years, we’ve photographed our daughter, Nova, on the very same front-yard rock before her first day of school. Looking back through those portraits and watching her grow year after year never fails to tug at our hearts. To be honest, we thought this little tradition was coming to an end. But just a few days ago, I showed Nova the collage of all nine portraits. She smiled and said, “We have to keep doing these through my senior year... we still have six more!”

My mama heart nearly burst.

In that simple moment, I realized she was beginning to understand what we’ve believed all along: these photographs become so much more than pictures. They become milestones. They are a visual reminder of how quickly childhood changes, while preserving the little details we never want to forget.

Thinking of starting your own back-to-school photo series? Here are a few tips that have helped us make it fun and meaningful over the years:

• Choose a spot that holds sentimental value

• Prep outfit and backpack the night before

• Keep photo time short and sweet (we use a phone timer for 5-10 minutes)

• Let kids pose their own way; this often makes the best shot

• Consider adding a short video with a question like: “What are you most excited about?”

• Print your favorites and a few extras for family and friends who will also adore this tradition

Hands down this is ALWAYS our favorite part.

Seeing a portrait leave the studio is meaningful. Seeing it become part of a family’s home is something else entirely.

Once artwork is installed, it stops feeling like a photograph and starts feeling like home. It becomes part of everyday life, shared meals, conversations, and celebrations.

This is why we guide our families from the session itself through custom design, printing, framing, and installation. Every step is intentional so the final pieces feel like they have always belonged there.

Our hope is that every family we work with experiences that feeling. Your walls become a timeline of the life you’ve built together. 🤍

Before a portrait becomes artwork, it begins with connection.

This past spring, this sweet family returned once again, continuing a tradition we’ve had the privilege of preserving. The evening on their property was filled with everything I hope families remember years from now: walks together, laughter, quiet embraces, and the comfort of simply being present in an environment where they are most comfortable.

Working with families season after season is one of the greatest gifts of this profession. I get to witness children grow taller, personalities unfold, and relationships deepen. Each session becomes another chapter in a story we’ve been telling together over time.

When I photograph a family, I’m never just thinking about today’s gallery. I’m already imagining the photograph that will one day hang on their wall, the one their children will walk past every morning and smile at because it captures a life that feels like their own.

These moments may feel ordinary today, but eventually they’ll become the memories everyone wishes they could revisit.

And that’s exactly why we preserve them.

So please, say yes to the photo session. Say yes to being in the images with your children, to including the dogs, your home, the moments you crave together that light you up. Make a beautiful portrait for your beautiful life.

Each framed portrait spends a little time here in the studio before it finds its forever home, and if I’m honest, saying goodbye is always hard because I fall in love with them... A LOT.

After spending weeks preparing, photographing, designing, printing, and carefully selecting every detail, it’s honestly hard to let each piece go. But knowing it’s on its way to the home it was created for makes it all worthwhile.

This heirloom portrait from their spring session with one of our returning families is now hanging where it will be seen every day. Moments like these are why I believe photographs deserve to live on walls, not just on screens.

Watching a family’s collection grow over the years is one of the greatest privileges of this work. Each new piece becomes another page in their legacy, filling their home with memories that only become more meaningful as time passes.

Behind the scenes home family session 🌸 🌵

There’s something about photographing a family in a place that already holds their everyday memories and where they are most comfortable.

The front porch stairs they run up, their favorite rocks to sit and climb on, and the spaces where children spend their evenings become part of the story. These details may feel ordinary now, but they often become the pieces we cherish most with time.

Portraits created at home capture more than how a family looked. They preserve a sense of place.

A little reminder to simply play together.

One of the things I cherish most about photographing families outdoors is seeing the world through a child’s eyes. A stick becomes a birthday candle waiting to be blown out, a magic wand 🪄, or the most exciting discovery of the entire evening.

These are the moments that capture my heart: exploring, imagining, laughing, and having the freedom to simply be.

My most-loved time of year for outdoor family sessions is quickly coming to an end. Before long, our pleasant spring evenings will give way to summer heat. If you’re dreaming of greenery or desert landscapes for holiday images, spring is actually the ideal time to create them.

I have just a couple of spring dates remaining on 6/5 and 6/6 before 100 degrees is on the horizon. Mother Nature treated us to some truly wonderful evenings.

Some stories feel especially tender to tell.

I’ve been photographing these girls since they were two years old, back when they were double the trouble, tiny voices, and matching outfits. And now, here we are celebrating their last week of high school. Two inspiring young women stepping into a brand new chapter.

Watching them grow up through my lens has been one of the sweetest gifts. Over the years, I’ve witnessed not only how much they’ve changed, but also the ways they’ve stayed the same... their bond, their light, and the way they bring joy wherever they go. Oh and I can’t forget to mention the giggles they have together!!

Time moves so quickly in hindsight. One moment you’re chasing twin toddlers with a camera, and the next you’re photographing graduates preparing to leave childhood behind. What an honor it is to preserve these fleeting chapters before they softly become memories.
