I love catching people being good.

I spend wedding days surrounded by people who are incredibly good at what they do professionally, and I love getting to watch that.

But there’s another kind of goodness I notice all day long that probably never makes it onto anybody’s website or job description.

People noticing and then deciding to love and serve.

A DJ notices that the bride and groom haven’t gotten any of the food or drinks from their own cocktail hour, so he brings some to them.

Someone sees another vendor carrying too much and grabs the other end.

We carry gear. We hold ladders. We move things. Fix things. Tie shoes. Safety pin dresses. Communicate. Jump in. Hand the bride and grooms child a phone so they can take pictures too. Share rain gear. Block wind. Pin hair.

Not because somebody isn’t doing their job. Everybody is doing their job. We’re just also paying attention.

We see each other’s needs. We see the needs of the bride and groom and the people they love. And we get to work.

I love that!

I love watching really talented people use their gifts well. But I think I love watching good-hearted people quietly decide, over and over again, “I can help here.”

Nobody’s keeping score. Nobody needs credit.

We just want the couple to have an incredible day, and we want each other to succeed.

There is something really beautiful to me about watching people add good to the world this way.

Ione asked if we could go for a walk so we could talk.

We made it approximately 20 feet down the sidewalk before deciding this was a terrible mother-daughter time idea.

So we got in the car and went for a drive instead.

I am officially done with summer. 🫠🥵💀

It is September. We have reached the BER months. I would like to walk down my own street without being personally victimized by the sun.

The batteries are charged and packed, the lenses are prepped, the rain gear is ready to be deployed at first hint, the timelines are printed and in their holders, the memory cards are ready and waiting, and the waterproof eyeliner and mascara is on and ready to pretend to be sweat proof (I need to figure out wedding day working makeup for me so I don't have makeup smears from wiping sweat before the ceremony even starts...waterproof makeup isn't' turning out so waterproof...so any tips there would be fabulous). I'm so ready to go celebrate with Kincaide and Tatumn today. It's going to be an amazing day!!

Cameron and I grew up in New Mexico, which means fresh Hatch green chile season is a VERY important time of year.
Or apparently it used to be, because for the last two years we somehow forgot about it until fresh chile was already out of season. We’ve been making do with canned. Canned green chile is better than no green chile. But it’s just not the same.

So yesterday when I walked into the grocery store and saw displays of fresh green chile, I impulse-pounced. I knew if I told myself, “Oh, I’ll come back and get some later,” or “We’ll find the guy on the side of the road roasting chile out of gunny sacks,” there was a very real possibility we’d be eating canned chile for a third year.

I came home with 16 pounds. Roasted it. Steamed it. Bagged it. Froze it. My house smelled like home all day.

And after all that, I decided 16 pounds probably wasn’t even close to enough. So this morning’s bike ride to the grocery store had a mission. Which turned out to be good timing, because I bought the last fresh green chile they had out.

All 26 pounds of it.

So apparently we’re processing 42 pounds of green chile this year to make up for the last two years.

Listen. You cannot have too much roasted green chile saved up for winter. I’m pretty sure that’s just New Mexico law.

Allison and Brittany were so nervous when they pulled up to Willow Springs Lake for their engagement session. They’d never had professional photos done together. It was not long before they were chatting up a storm, snuggling each other in, and taking in the gorgeous lake views. I had an blast visiting with them both, learning their story, and enjoying the lake views.

Lary and Kaitlyn, it was such a joy and honor to get to celebrate with you and to capture these memories for you. Your love for each other and for Christ was so clear in all your choices for the day and your interactions. I loved the line in the toasts, that you point each other to Christ, and it was beautifully evident to all of us there. You pivoted with grace when the rain hit, trusted all of us vendors to take care of you, and leaned on the love of your friends and family instead of stressing and getting upset. The meaning packed into the day was so fun to discover, from your planned details even to how the weather worked. It was an absolutely beautiful day for an absolutely beautiful (inside and out) couple. Love you both to the moon and back!

It’s wedding weekend for these two beautiful souls! One bonus about an engagement session with my wedding couples is that I get to walk into their wedding already as friends. The day on Mt Lemmon with Lary and Kaitlyn for their engagements was delightful back in February, and I know the wedding will be full of the same fun, love, faith, grins, and heartfelt details.

I think Ethan and Leah’s wedding had the fullest dance floor for the longest amount of time that I’ve seen in quite a while! Their friends and family came to celebrate, dance, cry, cheer, and share in the love of the day. Their college pastor officiated, their wedding party served the cakes, and the groomsmen were even caught practicing the electric slide before they got dressed…they wanted to make sure they were ready for that dance floor! It always makes for such an amazing feeling and atmosphere throughout the whole day when everyone is there to buoy up the couple and bring the joy. And these two deserved nothing less! They are about as sweet as they come!

Congratulations again Ethan and Leah! It was an absolute joy to celebrate with you this summer!
