The night we went to The Late Shoe and marched the entire audience down the street to see a Broadway show! Stephen Colbert is a great man who made a tiny one man baby feel uncomfortable.

It’s cold in Michigan, so today I look back to photographing a variety of cactus blossoms in Tucson, AZ. Lit with the 1OW max flashlight and photographed with the brand new (to new) Sony 100mm macro lens. Yes, it was quite a juggling act!

This was my third attempt at capturing the 200 frames needed for a basic circular star trail. Stubborn person that I am, I kept shooting as the wispy clouds came in. I brought the files into Photoshop as a stack and changed the layer blend mode to Lighten, which created the star trails.

Standing tall under the Milky Way. It’s also amazing how much light there is when you allow your eyes to adjust, which takes about 30 minutes.

15 exposures stacked with Starry Landscape Stacker and refined in Lightroom with Adaptive Sky and Subject presets.

Milky Way intersecting cactus. Or two parts of the universe you can’t or don’t want to touch!

Notice the little red camping chair on the left. We took camping chairs, not to sit in, but for our photo backpacks - as you don’t want to put your bag on the ground where the scorpions might crawl into them. Imagine coming home with 300 files and a scorpion!

Composing an image in the dark can be, politely said, “Challenging.” So simpler is the key for me. A towering saguaro cactus with an endless star backdrop.
