You don't have to carry your burden alone.

Su***de Awareness Month is here, and West Point Women want to open a conversation most of us are afraid to start. On September 16th at 7 PM EST, join COL (Ret.) Jessica Bunin, USMA Class of 1996, for a virtual discussion on emotional and mental wellness within our community. This isn't a lecture. It's a conversation about the things we don't say out loud: how to recognize when someone is struggling, how to start a hard conversation, and how to respond when someone reaches out to you.

Jess will share her own experience first. Then we'll talk about the resources available to you and the people you love. We're saving time at the end for your questions.

All are welcome to send questions before the webinar, and your information will be kept anonymous given the content.

Can't make it live? The session will be recorded. This event follows the September 8th Long Gray Line Walk with Us, and it continues the same mission: making sure no one in our community feels alone.

Dolly Parton did not have her own children, but she grew up in a large family, and has many relatives. Her niece, Danielle, who is the daughter of Bobby Parton, the fifth of the 11 of Dolly's siblings is a combat veteran, a businesswoman, and a proud member of the Parton family.

Danielle was the first female in the Parton family to graduate from college, having studied at Belmont University in Nashville. She then enlisted in the Air National Guard, serving as a pilot in the 118th Wing, Nashville; 123rd Airlift Wing, Louisville, Kentucky; and 164th Airlift Wing, Memphis, Tennessee.

She became an Aircraft Commander in 2012, deploying to locations like Kuwait and earning the Combat Action Medal, and the Air Medal.

Danielle shared a video on Aug. 26 on her page for the distillery she founded, Shine Girl. “I’m with you. The world will never be the same without Dolly Parton in it.”

She went on to add, “I’m so fortunate that I got to share in her life for 50 years of her 80, we’re 30 years apart.”

Describing Dolly as her “friend, my aunt, my confidant, my mentor,” adding that she will miss her many morning conversations. She recalled that her Aunt Dolly used to tell her, “‘Danielle, if you have the chance to grab one minute of happiness in this world,’ she said, ‘you take it. This world’s hard enough. This life’s hard enough. You be happy when you can be happy.'”

She also added that her aunt would not want people to be in despair, “She would not want us wallowing around in grief on it. She would tell me to get my ‘rear in gear, and get on with it.'”
