Home to 2 million people and growing, Zwelly is proudly located in Columbus, Ohio. In an effort to support the local creative community, we created Making Midwest. Let’s give em’ a show. Your story deserves to be told in a way that people will want to watch. When you look through our work you’ll see a lot of internal projects that were made without a client. Filmmakers! This is a call for films! Made By Things is partnering with motherful_org to host a new film festival in Columbus, OH! Open to ALL! FilmFreeway link in bio. ❤ Earlybird submissions close on Sunday! ⌛️

This is a one-day event showcasing films that share stories of justice and advocacy. We want to see short films that face issues head-on and advocate for a better future through documentary, narrative, or experimental filmmaking.

We are looking for films that feature a variety of issues, whether that be motherhood, women’s rights, food insecurity, immigration, refugee crisis, war, or something else. These should be raw and authentic stories that shine a light on important topics our world is facing. Named after the Egyptian goddess of harmony, justice, and truth, Maat (or Ma’at), our festival seeks to showcase films that embody her values.

The festival is hosted by Motherful and Made By Things. Motherful is a soulful, grassroots collective of single mothers. Both are based out of Columbus, Ohio.

The festival will be held in September 2026 in Columbus.
